Troy Spiral (13)
Normally i'm sort of lets say "uneasy" whenever i hear high up politicans talking just because i worry about what they are actually going to do. But yesterday ... er the day before(?) Bush said , referring to the mid-term election something like: "I thought we were gonna do good ... shows what i know." LOL. He said something else in that same press conference that i cant remember. Hell i thought it was a comedy special or something. Fierce Critter
Jon Stewart insists Bush is very, very intelligent. I really don't see it, based on what he says on a daily basis. The guy is the most horrible public speaker I think I've ever seen. Will nobody train him to take that smirk off his face when he's talking about serious issues? Makes him look like he's privy to some huge joke about which the rest of us are all in the dark. Oh, that's right. Punchline: The Bush Presidency. Troy Spiral (13)
Having watch the whole GW Bush life story documentaries and read various articles he is pretty sharp. Similar to how there is "streetwise" vs "well educated". Some personalties could survive "on the street" far and away longer than any of us, but couldnt write a well reasoned essay if their life depended on it. (not to say Bush isnt well educated he is... and Skull and Bones WILL retain control of the world regardless of who wins future elections ) He is i fear unfortuntately more of a puppet president than some more recent presidents (they all in the modern age have been puppets at least mildly so thats not the rebuke it sounds like) Im not sure if thats a good thing or a bad thing, depending on who is pulling the strings at the time. If he wasnt Bush Sr's son he wouldnt be president though. Thats for sure. In the modern age you need to be much more slick publicly unless you have some amazing political ties (and bucks) to back you up. Which he had from day one. I actually think his brother would probably make a better commander in cheif. But thats a whole seprate discussion.
Troy Spiral (13)
Oh and i didnt mean that inital quote to really be an insult. BrassFusion
http://www.straightdope.com/columns/010622.html "Is George W. Bush stupid? We have pretty good data here. In 1999 the NewYorker obtained a copy of the future president's Yale transcript and revealed that he'd had a C average in college and, more interestingly, scored 1206 on his Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT)--566 on the verbal and 640 on the math. To find out how this score stacked up, I called Educational Testing Service, publisher of the SAT, and learned that in 1994, SAT scores had been "re-centered." To offset the steady downward drift of test scores over the years, the scoring scale was adjusted upward so that the mean score for both math and verbal was again 500 (the midpoint on a scale of 200 to 800). Those who took the test before 1994 are now entitled to add a prescribed amount to their scores to see how they compare to students today. Having made the necessary adjustment, Little Ed announced, "I got 800 on my verbal! I'm a direct beneficiary of the stupidity of the American public!" Doing the same for Bush gives him 640 on both verbal and math, good enough for 88th percentile on the verbal and 86th in math were he entering college now. Those scores may not be as high as mine, of course, or even Al Gore's (625 verbal, 730 math unadjusted), but they ain't bad. Then again, I recall having seen a college guide circa 1970 that listed the average SAT for Yale freshmen as about 670 in verbal, 705 in math. So Bush was well below average for his class. He must have written a great essay. "
Troy Spiral (13)
Yep , nation of C students run by C students. =D The old mans records have been gone over with a fine toothed comb even before he ran for office. But that is a C average at YALE not a C average at Wayne County Community College. Having been to both Ivy League and Community colleges i can tell you theres a vast ramp-up in difficulty between the two. A 4.0 at HFCC was a peice of cake. A 4.0 at U of M felt almost impossible. I'd assume that one of the top 3-4 schools in the world is even more difficult. Then theres the fact that some of the least intelligent bitches i ever met were straight A students. The skills to get good grades and the skills to actually be "intelligent" are different. (again the street smart vs book smart) Also he has ate and slept politics his whole life. That is pretty huge when it comes to actually getting stuff done. The whole "im not a poltician... politicans." While it sounds cute and all, cant be effective as they dont know the proper strings to pull and buttons to push. WTF am i doing defending bush , i didnt vote for his ass. Gaf The Horse With Tears
He still got better grades than Kerry did. I still laugh when I think about Kerry bringing that stuff up in the 04 election only to find out that Bush had a higher IQ, higher SAT and higher grade point average... Fierce Critter
Having the goods don't mean you're necessarily smart enough to use 'em. And who, at this point, gives a rats' ass about Kerry? Can't we talk about the shortcomings of the current president without it becoming a dems vs pubs slanderfest? Fierce Critter
Sorry if I got snippy. It's backlash from all those ugly party vs. party ads that ran ad infinitum over the past few months. It REALLY got me sick, and pissed.
Troy Spiral (13)
Kerry is actually still fairly relevant to the politcal process. People still certianly listen to him. He is still very active in politics. Not being snippy just pointing that out. I do agree the "Don't vote for HIM he is EVIL!!" no no "dont for HIM he's evil!!" ads are annoying, and really dont help at all to make an informed decision. On the up side, i really would rather see these ads, that have something to do with lets say "important" subjects (that is politics), rather than a new ad for a mazda. At least it gets people thinking about politics even if just for a second until they put dancing with the stars back on.

He does seem to strike me at times as the 3rd person on Jeopardy, you know... like you know he is smart somehow to get there but somehow he is either in negatives or around $500 with all of his answers... and you just kind of sigh.
