Homicidalheathen
I gave up. I just feel so much better not eating meat.
Rayne
I don't like a lot of meat. The only red meat I willfully eat is ground sirloin. The good, less fatty kind. Only bad thing is I have Anemia. But I have it whether I eat red meat or not ... so what's the point of not eating something I don't like? My mother MADE me eat things I didn't like when I was little. Unless I totally dispised it to the point of causing sickness (like milk, I hate milk and I get sick). Now I can eat things I don't like, occasionally, and I do. But yeah ... I don't eat very much meat at all.
Zenji
I'm just curious. Was there a specific reason you became a Vegetarian? (By the looks of it you weren't a devout Vegan so Vegetarian may fit better) My cousin claims to be some kind of Ultra Vegan Lesbian Goddess. She lives in Los Angeles at a Ultra Vegan Lesbian Goddess Compound. The only time she talks to me is to send me e-mails with pictures of clubbed baby seals. I've talked about this on here before but her and I got into it because she claimed to be a hardcore Vegan but would buy meat flavoured soy products. I called her a phony and she was mad at me for a long time. See, if it's a health issue it's one thing... eating Vegan for health is one aspect (though I'd have to argue that eating Vegan is healtheir, it's all propaganda just like that damn Atkins bullshit). But it's another thing if you're onw of those, "Save the cows" types of people who want to protect all the animals and their <cough> rights to live and not be eaten by humans. Although I'm a fond supporter of eating balanced diets and excersising (though I don't do it as much as I preach it), the fact is that for all the ways our bodies need the same things, there are folks whose bodies need different things. Sometimes we see definciencies and abundancies in our chemical make-up that allows for us to significantly alter our diets and remain healthy. That's why I hate commercials so much because they make it seem like only their products work for you. The fact is all products work differently for eveyone. It's the same for consuming food of course. Some folks require higher protein or vitamins than others. It all varies. what's best is to figure out what your body likes and needs best to keep it functioning and you're good to go. Just remember, everything you eat was alive at one time. I don't feel any less for the veggies that are slaughtered on a field than the cows or chickens. They all died (or were slaughtered) so I could eat them, so I appreciate them all. "I could never be a Buddhist, I love sex and meat way too much!"
Homicidalheathen
I was a member of peta after becoming buddhist for awhile.....so it was a spiritual and eco desision for me...but since have more embraced the shamanic side of things.....and for some reason one of my doctors really wants me to eat meat again. And, this lady I know is part Native American (I have a tiny bit) and she said she felt physically better after quiting the vegan lifestyle.... I am thinking since I evolved to eat meat maybe I, should also... That there are ways of disolving any negative energies from eating meat like honor and thanks rituals.... That if you try to be aware of what your doing and not take anything for granted or over indulge in any one things your ok..... And that since I live in the North I need a higher and heavier protien diet like Eskimos but not as severe.... Also that these animals are well....rather yummy. And yummy is good. How do I know? My tongue and tummy tell me so. And my nose.
Zenji
For some reason I'm not into saving the animals on a global scale. I much prefer the personal relief I get from not killing creatures. If the diet was based on a religious/political outlook as opposed to medical one, I can imagine it being more difficult to maintain. Some people just can't eat stuff because it's bad for them, whereas some folks NEED to eat more to keep healthy. Sometimes religious and political views require reconciliation with oneself but medical reasons are often a necessity. Only true believers (like Bob Marley) deny medical necessity to die while being truly devout to their personal beliefs. For you, it may be healthier and necessary to eat meat or rather a more balanced diet. Sometimes that necessity overcomes your belief system. This may also be why your belief system has changed slightly... maybe to fit your medical necessity.... sometimes this happens.
Homicidalheathen
The Carribou the other night was delicious. And I think it would be rude, even wrong to refuse ritual food stalked and killed by one of my caring friends.... I just can't wait until a yr is up so I can go back to bloody steak. Yum.
