Msterbeau
isn't that just a Probe rebranded as a Mitsu? Not quite. it's a Mitsubishi. They sold a version as a Dodge too.
Gaf The Horse With Tears
Right... Dodge Stealth is the same car just rebranded.

HipsterDufus
Another classic. It's been around for 50 years. I like that car, btw, HW.
torn asunder
No. It's just plain gross. Bad idea. Bad surfacing. Bad paint. Just all around bad. I'm sure the people involved are very proud of their work. I guess if the idea was to attract attention to the wheels on it.. (Looks like it's in a wheel booth at a car show.) then they may have succeeded. This assumes you subscribe to the theory that any publicity is good publicity. Here's a link to the page since it's being difficult: http://vtec.net/articles/article-image?ima...ema_tov0003.jpg seriously!? i thought this car was pretty cool! I didn't realize you needed the username for anything but forums. *sigh* You need a college degree to surf the web anymore... I guess I'll add them to this post. Holy GROSS. *blech*

pomba gira
gah... maybe with different paint... and why would you need 15" subs outside? I don't think anything could help... but yeah, the hideous paint does call even more attention to the jarring discrepancies between the various design elements. It's like "how much different STUFF can we throw into one project?" Looks like some definite stimulant issues were going on there.

BrassFusion
I think it looks like some sort of space alien fish or somethin. It's glam fuckin' rawk, is what it is. I'm gonna wait till everybody sees those pictures and is all, "omg, what an ugly car!!" and then everyone who thinks it isn't ugly will get all insecure about thinking it's cool, and whoever owns it at the time will try to sell it and no one will want to buy it, so they'll donate it to the make-a-wish foundation. then i'll get leukemia and the car will be mine. i'll have the most hideous beautiful car in the world and be the envy of all my neighbors who don't want to admit it. Gaf The Horse With Tears
If you don;t like the design of this car.. that means YOU dont like it. It does not mean its a bad design. I would dare say it's a good design. It does exactly what it was designed to do... draw your attention. Get you to look at it and ask questions. I highly doubt it was meant to drive to work on Monday morning.. or race on Friday night. It's a show piece. And it is very much in the "show". Like I said, it caught my attention, for sure ... but I (personally) still don't like it. My mother thinks her PT Cruiser is the best car on Earth. I can't stand them. I think they look and drive like junk ... but that's just me. Just my opinion. They aren't a "bad design" ... I just don't like them.

It may meet it's business goals, but that doesn't make it a good design. Things like aesthetics will always be a subjective, personal taste, kinda thing. I'm quite certain that there's always going to be at least one person who likes any particular design. The designer. It kills me, though, to see a bunch of money thrown at a project like this without at least some guidance from a pro. Would it not get even more attention if it was well designed and attractive? Perhaps it might make it's way into more magazines, blogs, etc too, instead of being ridiculed and written off as a grotesque blob.

It's bad design by any conventional standard of aesthetics you care to name. Harmony and/or balance of design elements, form-following-function... whatever. "Attention-getting" is a marketing standard, not one of aesthetics. That doesn't mean it should never have been made, or that anyone who likes it is a tasteless philistine... but... it's bad design. wow, it's really nice to give my natural "insufferably pedantic know-it-all" tendencies free rein once in a while... I usually spend sooo much energy trying not to sound like that! If I'm not careful I'll be talking semiotics next...

The problem with being an expert in a field that's subjective is that some people will dismiss your statements, no matter how much schooling/experience you have. My former boss. for instance. :-P
