Ok so today (this morning) I was finally given a copy of my new orders. For those that don't know, I am an Army reservist that was activated for one year in support of opperation enduring freedom. I was lucky? enough to find myself being sent to FT Benning GA instead of Iraq like I was scheduled. Recently we were all told that we were going to be involentarily extended for 7 - 12 months. Today we got those orders.

As it turns out the 100th Infantry Division (to which my reserve unit now belongs to) has just commuted our sentece to an additional 6 months instead of the full 7 - 12 months. Whoo hoo right? Wrong.

What is the phraze? Never look a gift horse in the mouth? Well there is a definate dark side to this latest bout of kindness from our new Division (My old division was disbanded - the 84th INF DIV and folded into the 100th as of Jan 1 2005).

The alterior motive is the fact that the 100th Div is going to be going to play in the sand box (Iraq) July / August 2006. When we get back we are guarenteed 6 months of stabilization before redeployment. This would have put us outside of the window for being redeployed with the 100th had we been extended for the full 2 years. Subsequently the down side to this getting off easy is that we are now in line to get mobilized along with the rest of the 100th Division when they go (which is obviously WHY they were so "NICE").

By the way just for shits and giggles, we will officially be the most deployed reservists or national guardsmen in the Army upon re deployment next year. No one in the reserves or national guard have done more than 24 months so far. Upon re deployment we will be completeing 3 years (36 months for the thinking impared like me) of active duty.

The good news is that I will be coming back home on or around the beginning of November 2005 for approxomately 10 months but will then get deployed to the sand box there after and the likely hood of us getting a duty station state side is not like the second time round.

On that note, I feel like taking some leave and coming home for a bit. Don't know how soon I will get to do so but hopefuly it will be soon.
