Homicidalheathen
F*ck! ^&%$#@!! Ok? Thats what I have to say. I planned this sledding trip for this year with a few new people, and like 10 of my old friends. We were going to get a bunch of us together, I even bought 3 new sleds! Had the designated drivers picked out......some spiced mead ready..... And.......no snow. Anyone hear about this new movie Al Gore made called: an inconvienent truth? http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/local/272558_warming02.html I am going to rent and watch it soon. This is the first yr in awhile I have complained about no snow. Well? It messed up my sled trip!
HipsterDufus
I'll be honest, it's creeping me out. Admittedly, one year is probably too little to go on to justify the existence of global warming, but I have noticed that the winters have been really mild the last couple of years. I've also noticed that it's a LOT more windy where I'm at, all year 'round. The wind has become quite a nuisance sometimes, as it blows down limbs and messed with my satellite dish (when I had one). Overall, I believe the weather has changed in Michigan since even I've been alive. This is just gathered from my own personal experiences though. Homicidalheathen
I too, remember ALLOT more snow. Some scientists say that this is normal.....that every hundred yrs or so there is a warm trend......but this is rediculous! I actually kind of miss it. Well, nature has a way of balancing things out......like too many humans...... I suppose this is it then. The weather will change.....less available water to drink or bad storms.......and some of us will die. Sigh.
kellygrrrrrl
I've watched these global warming educational shows for a while. I have not seen An Inconvenient truth though. It is so sad and gives me such an uneasy feeling of doom to think of how far into this problem we are. It's almost irrevearsable at this point. Until we stop depending on the use of fossil fuels, this problem will only get worse. The ice caps reflect heat from the sun.....if the ice caps melt, the sea levels rise. The more Dark water that attracts light, the faster the oceans heat up....causing the caps to melt even faster. The hotter the planet, the more crazy weather patterns get. It's a big giant delicate balance that done got fucked up. They took Ice Samples from the South Pole going down 1000's of feet.....which shows 1000's of years worth of atmospheric gas levels and so on. Never in a "very very very long time" (cause I can't remember the actual number - something like millions of years) have the carbon dioxide levels been as high as they are now. It really is frightening. I remember back in grade school a teacher saying that in 20 years, Michigan will have weather like The southern states. She was right! BrassFusion
As shitty as permanent global temperature increases would be, i *love* the absence of snow. kellygrrrrrl
heh....don't get me wrong.... I LOVE the no snow..... I SHOULD be living in Florida. My skin HURTS when its cold. I would ratehr be hot than cold. BUT...it does concern me.

I agree... the winters are definitely milder than when I was a cub. Back in the '70s there was some amount of snow on the ground almost all winter. I truly loathe snow & cold weather in general, but it does seem unnatural to be this far into the season with no snow or seriously cold weather yet... and yeah it's making me feel a bit uneasy. & no snow is bad for more reasons than missed sledding & skiing... snowmelt is really important for farm crops. Prolly for a lot of things in the natural order, too... if you think about it a snowless winter is a form of drought, just not as noticeable to most people as a hot dry summer drought. My take on the whole "is global warming real" issue is that it's best to err on the side of caution... if we take steps to deal with global warming & it turns out not to be real, then we've wasted some resources, time & energy but no real harm will have been done. On the other hand, if we don't do anything and it IS real, everyone's fucked.

Hey, it could even be good for the economy, having businesses develop that try to halt global warming. There's not a lot of harm to be done on the assumption that global warming does exist. Gaf The Horse With Tears
The point of contention about Global warming isn;t really if it is happening... it's if we humans are to blame or if it's a natural thing. Can we do anything about it? Recent studies have shown that cow farts (methane) have a bigger impact on greenhouse gases than humans do. People tend to ignore some facts.. like the Sun is going all wanky and acting different than it ever has sence we started monitoring it... this wankyness all started in the last 10-15 years... about the same time the People who are screaming about Global warming stopped being the people screaming about Global Cooling... Nothing good is going to come out of this for the Economy except to move us into a renewable energy system and away from fossil fuels. Most of the proposals and current laws about global warming hurt the evonomy. Kyoto is failing by all accounts... greenhouse gas emitions from signiture countrys have risen.. not dropped. It's easyer to pay the fines (and less costly) than implement it. Also... This winter is following the weather patterns on 1996 almost perfectly. HipsterDufus
Interesting. That web site goes into more detail about the sun and its effect on global warming that Gaf mentioned. Just in case others were interested, like myself.

Well, some of 'em would, but there wouldn't be enough of them to produce greenhouse gas-boosting levels of methane.
Gaf The Horse With Tears
sorry hun... thats kinda true and kinda false. There would not be as many demesticated cows... but there would be more wild Bison and buffaloe.

Gaf The Horse With Tears
No, the Ozone layer filters out most of the Ultra Violet Light... the Magnetosphere deflects most solor radiation and particles carried by solar winds.

n0Mad
This mild winter really has nothing to do with so called Global Warming. It's all due to El Nino. Warm currents from the Gulf Stream move up the west coast and it's a normal, natural occurance. Every 5-10 years or so the winds move further inland and it fucks up the weather. This is only the 5th warmest winter Michigan has ever had. Back in 1877 I think it was we had our first warmest winter (that's been recorded). And right around that time were two more winters that were warmer than the one today. And guess what? After that it got colder! So over 130 years ago it was warmer than it is now and it got cold for over a century. And now that it's warm again everyone is freaking out over "global warming"? It's El Nino. Rest easy. It will be cold again for another century. For every video proving global warming there's another one disproving it. Check out Penn & Teller's "Bullshit" for starters. They have one of the best research teams around.
Soulrev
Yeah besides it's not like it's all over the country, the plains states got slammed with snow and shit last week. And I'm sure it's still nice and freezing in Laramie Wyoming where I had the pleasure of spending a winter. Fuck that shit is cold.
Lilith
I hate being Cold but i so missed snow on christmas. I miss sledding with my kids and making snow men. If the temp could be that nice mild temp when snow falls and it just does not seem to cold to be out, i'd like it. The truly bitter cold, where it feels like your skin is burning freezing off is what i hate it and it can stay away. I guess it would be an old wise tale but my grandma used to say we need the bitter cold to help control the population of pests, buggies, and animals. So i have always accepted the bitter cold as a way to help nature keep control over herself. So the lack of, does worry me, are we going to be over populated with mosquitios, grubs, the bugs that eat trees etc... and is this then going to lead to more chemicals being used to help control those pests, thus buggering up our water supply even more...... It just seems more natural the other way. I also personally feel the lack of snow, simply the lack of snow is not good for us, we live with this drab season where everything is ugly and dead, the snow provides a blanket of sparkling covering for the drab world to brighten it up. I think the lack of snow could possibly lead to more depression in some way. I know i just feel happier when the snow covers the dirty dark landscape and the sun sparkles off it like fields of diamonds!
