Fierce Critter
This is just the first one I've done, and I've already got people asking me to make them for them - paid. A woman seeing me buy the hair at a supply asked for my information, as did a chick at CC Saturday who does fetish shows. There are a couple things I'll do different on my next one, which I plan to work on probably this week. Blue & black this time. Going to be working on a business card, too. I think I'm going to go with "Fierce Falls" as a business name.

StrayBullet42
How long does that take you?
Fierce Critter
How long does that take you? That one was actually my first, so it will have taken longer than the next one, since I didn't exactly know what I was doing. To prepare the individual parts, I believe I worked 8 hours. I do mine in a totally different manner than any others I've seen, so they require a bit more prep than if they were just mounted on elastics. Then to actually assemble the piece, I think it was another 6 hours. Total of 14 hours. I think I can do the next one in much less time. If I can get my ass in gear, I'll be working on a blue & black one to wear to CC this weekend. Thanks for the compliments, all. I'm currently doing some research to see whether my technique is, in fact, unique, and to see what a good price should be. Thusfar, the amount I had in mind seems to be spot-on. There will be cheaper ones out there, as well as more expensive ones. But I think I've got a good figure in mind. This is what I'd call a more elaborate one, with a lot of attachments. I want to try my hand at a somewhat less elaborate one, for which I'd charge less. But if I don't think it'll be up to my standards, they'll all have to be more full. Fierce Critter
and how much aill u be charging?? looks great! For one like this, $125. I did a lot of checking online, and judging by what others charge, that seems like a fair price. I have to double-check the number of attachments to be sure. There are others charging a lot more for one with this much on it, but there are others charging less, so I want to fall somewhere in between. I also use 100% synthetic hair - no yarn, no lace, etc. And the base I use is, from what I can gather thusfar, unique and adds a bit to the materials cost. But it makes it wear better, and easier, so it's worth it to me, even if it raises prices a touch and cuts into overhead.

Fierce Critter
I will definately be saving my pennies - u did a great job, I want to get some! hehe, I'll get ahold of u when I get some extra cash!! Cool. Also, I will custom-make each and every piece according to what people want, instead of making people choose from premade stock. Turnaround shouldn't be too bad, and will mostly depend on being able to hook-up for fittings & delivery. I want to put together sample swatches of every kind of material I work with, so people can come over, look at the swatches and say, "I want some of this in there, and a tiny bit of this, and oh cool - that, too." I was browsing around a store today and picked up some post-Christmas garlands and stuff that have me thinking about adding some unusual bits and pieces to some in the future. Including some silver & metallic braids & twists, and some satin rope. I won't be using a lot of the stuff I see others using such as thick dreads & foam or plastic lacing, because, honestly, others do that really well, and I'm loathe to copy. And frankly, there are some styles I really don't care for, and I won't make them just to make a buck. Such as really thick dreads. I use dreads, but they're pre-made ones, really lightweight so they don't add undue weight to a piece. I'm particularly fond of the look and texture. I really can't see working in yarn or ribbon, either. I've been shopping every Sistah beauty supply between Taylor and Livonia, and I'm finding so many unusual textures and colors in synthetic hair, I don't really want to branch too far away from that basic material. I did see some U.K. sellers making some fabulous ones in some gorgeous color combinations, outside of the black/red/purple/green/blue goth-standards. Including things like peacock feathers, etc. I really think I'm going to have to give something like that a try, I just like the beauty of what I've seen so much. That will be the closest I come to copying someone, but the U.K. ones are REALLY expensive, so I don't feel bad eventually coming up with my own, affordable version. Another thing I think I'm going to work on are bang/fringe clip-ins, too. My own hair is almost one-length, without bangs, and sometimes I'd like to add bangs for variety. Gotta pick up some extension pieces to give that a try, though.

Fierce Critter
I like the matching tassel-thingies. :-) Heh. Thanks. I did the roping on those myself. Probably one of the most time-consuming things until I figured out how to do things right without dozens of individual strands of hair flying hither-and-yon all over the kitchen. TygerLili
I've never been a fan of hair falls, but that looks awsome. I really like all the twists.
