Designated Drivers

Recommended Posts

Well... that would mean being an ADULT. Use proper vocabulary people!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I swear... half our problems would be fixed if people communicated with each other using a consistent vocabulary. No misunderstanding... no problem.

I did not and do not feel I have to go more into it, Erin hit it on the head.

My issue with this isn't really about responsiblity or me getting drunk. I only get drunk if I know I am riding with someone who will not be drinking much. I'm actually very responsible about that. If I see the person I rode with drinking a lot I will immediately stop. Honestly, at least half the time we go out I have one drink or just drink soda.

Like I said, if I've agreed beforehand that I will be driving, it's different. I just get mad about being put in the position of it being 3:30 in the morning, I can barely keep my eyes open, I've had a drink or two, and all the sudden I have to drive home because the guy I'm with didn't keep an eye on how many he's had. If I've agreed to drive somewhere we usually leave no later than 2AM because after that I feel like I am simply too tired to drive home, sober or not.

And, because I drive most of the time when we go somewhere during the day or the evening, I think he should be the one to drive late at night most of the time.

One of my used to be friends along time ago, always thought that I should drive,Like,Lets play the DUI game,Or worse yet everytime he would have a party at his place me and some others would hangout and drink a few, then when it was 2 am he would say "Ok everyones got to go" and usually he would wait to do this shit

when everyone was completely blitzed,"lets see if we get home without getting pulled over type game" eventually we stopped hanging out with him and his girlfriend because of that crap,I myself don't mind catching

a buzz, but thats about it,4- beers in a 6 hour period, but it would be nice if someone else would drive for once.(that was only directed at some people I know that are not even on DGN)

I agree. Having narcalepsy makes me the designated driver ALLOT. Which is really stupid considering I fell asleep at the wheel 5x last year totally str8. I am as bad as Ron Jeremy. I jsut nod off. Oh and i get motion sickness easy if someone else is driving. But......I am sooo sick of it. I get lost easy, I don't see well.....but because I am a very light drinker and can afford gas.....everyone tries to take advantage.

Just once I want someone to say to me, gee its your turn to have a good time. Have another drink, I will drive home.

No, instead they keep drinking knowing I will stop so I can drive because I despise drunk driving. Sure you do enough other things for me.....but this does sorta seem like a thing a guy would WANT TO DO for his girl. Especially in Detroit.

I never date very chivalris (is that spelled right) men, they are usually selfish jerks. I pay and drive. It sucks.

Okay, I know quite a few couples who have gotten into fights over this. I told my boyfriend that I and most of the women I know hate having to drive home from clubs, bars, parties, etc. in the middle of the night because their boyfriends or husbands are too drunk to drive home. Maybe I'm old-fashioned, but I think that it's just chivalry for the guy to drive home most of the time.

Personally I don't care much about most of the traditional chivalrous acts. I don't expect guys to open doors for me, or pull out my chair for me, or pay for everything, or drive all the time. When a man performs these gestures for me from time to time it is appreciated, but not expected.

However, I hate driving home in the middle of the night. When my boyfriend and I go places I drive 90% of the time because I have a newer car, and because I know the area we just moved to better than he does. I have no problem with us taking my car to clubs or parties, i just prefer him to be the one to drive it. I'm not talking about special circumstances, like his birthday, when I've agreed to be the designated driver, I'm talking about a regular night. I have astigmatism and have a hard time seeing at night. My boyfriend is much more of a night owl than I am, and usually when we are leaving the clubs I am half asleep while he is wide awake. Also, I don't drink often, and when I do 2 or 3 drinks will get me tipsy to the point I shouldn't operate a vehicle, while most guys I know can have a few more than that and still seem reasonably sober.

Do any of you other ladies feel this way, or am I just old-fashioned? Any guys want to dispute me?
