South Beach Diet

I have the book- I just need to sit down and read. (Actually I should get off of the 'puter and go read it LOL)

Has anyone here done this diet? Thoughts on it?

I know it isn't a cure all, but I think I am going to give it a go. I don't like me at all right now and this seems like a viable diet. (I don't think I could give p bread or potatoes entirely!) :ermm:

I'm doing it right now. I'm finding the first two weeks without bread and sweet drinks is really hard for me. I'm determined to get through it but have to keep starting over.

I like the fact that it was designed by a cardiologist who saw real measurable results in reduction of cholesterol, fewer heart attacks and strokes in his patients as well as weight loss.

I gotta say this is encouraging! 3 positive posts!

yay! Good luck Onyx and Enke!

Kicking the pop and such is gonna be hard. It's just so damn convenient wherever you go. But heart problems do linger in my family, so that is something to consider. Thanks for pointing that out Onyx! ((But hey why are you on it? I've met you in person and you look great!!))

Awww, thanks :) My belly needs work, but that's more lack of exercise than a weight issue.

My doctor told me that my cholesterol is so messed up that if I don't fix the problem, it's not a question of whether I'll have a heart attack or stroke, but when. Very strange since one year ago it was normal, but I've had it checked yet again and my good cholesterol is still very low and the bad cholesterol is sky high. I'm determined to beat this if possible with diet and exercise rather than drugs.

I was very shocked because I don't eat a lot of meat or fatty food, but the research is pointing to a high carb diet (bad carbs) as the culprit in the type of cholesterol I have elevated. White flour and sugar along with not enough fiber, those trans-fats that are in every single baked thing I buy, and lack of "good" fats like olive oil are what's done it to me. The "don'ts" on the diet sheet he gave me (pizza, white bread bagels, white-flour-pasta, etc) made up almost my entire diet with the exception of a few salads and fruits! ack.

The reason you can't have even whole wheat bread or fruit the first two weeks is to reset your cravings, and then you can add it in later. It does work! I messed up again yesterday (darn Coke and pizza tempted me) but I'm starting over yet again today.

Fallenon - I think you'd definitely lose weight on this. It isn't really intended as a weight loss diet but more of a total way of healthy eating, but it does help in weight loss too. If I stick to the plan I'm not even hungry between meals at all.
