New Pagan Shop In Hazel Park

Yeah I don't post often, and this is kind of odd for me being an Atheist and all. But I support all forms of the counter culture (or pretty much anything anti-mainstream). Ma showed me the local paper and they have an article about this place in Hazel Park called "Practical Magick" on John R. "Laura Slaght opened the pagan-friendly boutique in mid-January" it says. They also have non Pagan items as well from what it says.

Anyhow that's it, back into obscurity I go.

I went with Vampyro and the local Shaman cirle leader (my buddy Todd) last night.

It was WONDERFUL!

The leader of the discussion group is a black man (I mention that cause I just love finding such diversity in Detroit......in AZ I Never met black wiccans) who is a high preist and VERY knowledgable......

It was taped for Detroit public access but I don't know when its showing.....

The once a month discussion group is awesome......but they said stop in anytime to just say HI!

And the wicca classes look good too.

Negatively jaded criticizm is a tool for the self blinding. This shop is absolutely wonderful. It is not intended for the narrow minded or tunnel visioned. It embraces the acceptance to all religeons. And the people I've met there are also very wise, the discussions we had were amazing. It really is full of people who have a very sharp edge of intelegence above what most others seem to have.

Also, if your mom really thought you were special from everyone else, she'd have already spelled your name differently.. face it.. :respect: ideas different than your own.

difference of ideas i can handle- misspelling words to differentiate meaning is pointless. that's what the whole "homonym" deal is about.

that said:

criticism.

religions.

intelligence.

maybe i'll start mangling more words than just my name and see how many people start to get pissed off...

the spelling of magick as opposed to magic is intentional as they're trying to seperate the illusionary trick, with actual reigeous magic... now you being a teacher should know more than others that the grammer and spelling always changes over time in languages... hate it all you want but try to show some intelegent reasons besides jr high level criticizm.

maybe we should find new ways to spell words like

Address Appropriate August Axes Bases

Bass Bow Buffet Close Colon

Conduct Combine Commune Compact Compress

Console Content Contest Contrast Converse

Crooked Defect Desert Dingy Does

Dove Entrance Envelope Excise Extract

Gill Incense Increase Interest Intimate

Invalid Lead Leading Learned

Live Minute Moderate Moped Mow

Number Object Overage Pate Peaked

Perfect Periodic Presents Primer Produce

Progress Project Putter Read Rebel

Record Recreate Recreation Redress Refuse

Reject Resent Resort Resume Row

Sake Secreted Separate Sewer Shower

Skied Sow Subject Supply Tarry

Tear Tower Use Wind Windy

and Wound

to separate their multiple meanings.

or maybe... JUST MAYBE... spelling the word "magic" with a K makes it look cooler and more esoteric. i got bank says it does.

and i don't mean female deer.

I was raised Pagan, though I do not practice anymore (or any religion for that matter). I found it witty, and quite funny.

Erin just has a different kind of humor. Being Pagan you have to have come across worse then a smartass joke. No doubt. People can be evil/hateful/closeminded (as I'm sure you know).

I really don't think Erin meant to come off in a hateful way. But honestly even if she did, it is her right to say what ever she likes, just as it is yours.

If you ask me the only person that came off hateful in this thread was you. Just call it in observation (and no I don't want to fight back and forth with you. PLEASE DO NOT PM ME I don't need drama it's not worth my time or energy).

I think you put it best when you said "Negatively jaded criticism is a tool for the self blinding". Try listening to your own advice please, before bashing other people for doing the same.

That is all I have to say.

WOW. Thank you.

On the magic vs. magick debate, I tried a novel concept called, "doing research to back up my arguement rather than talking out my ass" and came up with the following:

From the Random House Unabridged Dictionary:

Origin: 1350–1400; ME magik(e) witchcraft < LL magica, L magicé < Gk magik, n. use of fem. of magikós. See magus, -ic

From the American Heritage Dictionary:

Middle English magik, from Old French magique, from Late Latin magica, from Latin magicē, from Greek magikē, from feminine of magikos, of the Magi, magical, from magos, magician, magus; see magus.

Other uses of the word magic include: magicked and magicking.

Therefore my conclusion is not that the store added a K to seem more essoteric, but rather they are following the more traditional and original English spelling and not the lazy American version.

As an interesting note, in 1584 Reginald Scot wrote a book called, "The Discoverie of Witchcraft". And no, he didn't spell discovery that way to be erie, but rather that's how it was spelled in old-middle English. Anyway, whether it is magick or magic is mainly irrelevent as at that time the arts were called juggling (totally unlike the juggling of today and more akin to sleight-of-hand) or legierdemaine (also an old-middle English spelling as we use "legerdemain" today).

Yeah so majik, magick, manwich, manwitch, whatever. The next time I hear you use ebonics Erin I'm letting you have a piece of my mind (even though you're usually making fun of it at that point, I still don't want to hear it).

The English language gets butchered every day by people with I.Q.s about as high as Forest Gump. At this point I've stopped caring all together.

They're also right, that's the exact reason they're spelling it that way is to distinguish it between itself and regular card trick magic. It even said so right in the article.

Calling it "Practical Witchcraft" or something along those lines would be just asking for trouble.

This post was merely meant to inform those interested about a new shoppe that might cater towards their tastes. Not a debate on the English Language.

That said, discussion about the store can continue now.

Because "magic" is fake and "magick" is real, eh? I've said it before and I'm sure I'll say it again:

"If you can prove that drinking the blood of roosters will get you laid, it's Science. If you can't prove it and you do it anyway, it's superstition. If you drink rooster's blood and you sprout wings and fly around, but only sometimes, THEN it's magic.

Unless you're pretentious, too. Then it's Magick."
