Moving Out For The First Time

Recommended Posts

Hey peoples. Today i talked to a co-worker/friend. She's having problems with money and needs help paying the rent, so she offered me to move in with her. Since i've made it very clear to almost EVERYONE that i need to get out of this house and away from my parents. She knew i wouldnt say no and I'm currently packing.

So by March 3rd i'll hopefully be moved out.

Does anyone have any advice as to sharing a one bedroom apartment between 2 people or whatever?

My Ears are open.

I would say figure out a cleaning chart. That's my biggest thing right now. I am very clean my roommate not so much. So its a little bit of a rift.

Um figure out whats cool and not towards food. I.E things you share and things you don't, how you buy them. My roomie and I go half and half and anything "special" we buy seperate.

Other then that I got nothing.

Try to get a to a point where your not renting from her... your renting the place together. Figure out food and other shared bills... who's paying what and when. Document everything you pay that is shared. if you pay the electric bill.. get a reciept and keep it. Infact... kept every thing you can related to the living arrangments in writing.

and um... How well do you know this person? Like... if you have never lived outside your parents house... are you going to be able to take a crap in relative peace? or is the fact that they are right outside the door going to make you uneasy... there are so many things to consider...

This is some good advice, but i have thought all this through.

The girl im rooming with is a co-worker. And before you say that i might get tired of seeing her all the time, no. Because theres a friends place that im almost always at. If im not at work, or home, im there. And it's not going to change.

The only rule she had was that my smoking had to go out on the balcony.

Heh, she even had the idea of a Pure Romance Party sometime in march.

I'm excited, cuz i cant wait to actually feel free, and not argue with my dad everytime he opens his mouth.

Definitely! My bf didn't do this with his last roommate and he's kicking himself now. Plus, if your name is on things it's harder for the other person to just throw you out if it doesn't work out.

Also, discuss your policies on food(sharing or each buying their own), and on borrowing stuff from each other. When I think back that's what I've had the most arguments with my previous roommates about.
