Is Anyone Hiring Out There?

What kind of things are on your resume?

I can ask around, but I know people in all sorts of fields. I'd need to know what your skills/experience are.

Well I truly thank you for that.

I am not looking for anything fancy because I know how the job market is out there, I just need something to get me out of the hole I seam to be stuck in weither it is in retail or something more businessy. At this point I wouldn't mind traveling at all for work. I do have a bachlors degree in business administration, but that is actually not getting me very far. In the past I have worked everything from being a stock boy to a department leader at Kroger to being in outside sales (although I rather not do that again, but I will if I have to).

Thanks again

Wounds:

I do not know if they are hiring at the moment. But I would highly suggest you put in an application at AAA Michigan. Take a trip to their main office in Dearborn, show up in person, and even if you just get as far as the main reception/security desk, take the trouble.

I worked for AAA for 5 years. My sister has worked there over 30. They're big in business majors there.

Bad things: It's not easy to move up in the company. They treat clerical & other support staff criminally bad (one reason I quit). Their review process is typically white-collar tightass, and you have to walk on water to to above average reviews, walk on air to get excellent.

Good things: The benefits are FANTASTIC. I haven't been there since 1995, but I don't think things have changed much. Everything from tuition reimbursement to health coverage to dental to optical to you name it.

Also, they have locations outside of the Dearborn office. Including downtown Detroit.

And the pay is decent.

It's worth a try.

If you are looking to do temp work or day labor, Kelly Services hires all all kinds - not just secretaries. Everything, including higher level white collar to shelf-stocking blue collar.

Day labor - it sucks, but it's money. Did it with my husband in Florida. There are Labor Ready offices all over suburban Detroit. You get paid the same day you work. Minimum wage, but it'll keep you in food.

Best of luck. I'll report here if I hear anything.

I feel ya WW & HH... it's crazy... I've been without a real job since August and my unemployment is about to run out. I thought I could just go back to doing clerical work... but since I have the M.A. no one wants to hire me for that kind of thing 'cos I'm "overqualified". No idea what I'm gonna do... really really wish I could relocate 'cos there are teaching gigs to be found elsewhere.

I had this problem too. The reason most places don't want to hire "overqualified" people is they think you are going to skip out the second something better comes along. I got around it by offering to sign a contract agreeing to work there for a year and it finally got me hired. May not be an ideal solution, but it's better than nothing!

Good luck to everyone who is out of work right now. It's scary out there!

Im actually giving serious thought to QUITTING my job because my boss is a tantrum thrower and verbal abuser and we're not getting along lately because I dotn allow people to talk to me that way....its a very thin relationship and its taking its toll on my health.

But - this is MI - I have to have a new home to go to that matches my current salary if I'm to make a move. I've moved (job wise) laterally three times in two and a half years in MI so I know it can be done, but man it IS tough. I'm shooting resumes out there as we speak. ANd my Boss and I have a trade show scheduled at the end of the month to go to - he doesent know it but I'm going to be dropping my resume there as well. Gotta get creative to make any headwy here in MI

I wonder if they are hiring part time. I need something flexible for a few hours while my daughter is at school.
