Any Goth Shops Other Than Noir In Detroit?

Recommended Posts

Hey there--

Well, this is my issue....

I want to get some clothes. Something edgy or romantic, whatever, and I keep going to Noir (who are really great people...I've worked with a lot of their staff on art projects). You can only go there so much, though, so here's my question:

Where are some stores around the Metro area that sell stuff like Noir, but aren't Noir? Gothy clothes and the like...leather...boots...and for the love of God, no Freakin' Hot Topic! Hot Topic doesn't carry sizes for Humans, it seems. :cry Besides, I think I'm getting too old to be seen in one!

Thanks for any help! Email me at the email in my profile (if there is one...if there isn't, I'll add it)!

There used to be a few... Cats Meow closed, Scales (cyber goth/punk gear) went online only. Now your only choices are really Noir Leather, Hot Topic, thrift stores/value world/salvation army (if your lucky you can find good stuff on the cheap). Unfortunately your best bet these days is to shop online or take a trip to Chicago which has a slightly better selection from what I've heard.

Option B is make it yourself. Option C would be to take a page from http://www.trystancraft.com/martha/ and just try to make normal clothes more dark (not to say dye them which could work but just modify them a bit).

Showtime. I'm not sure if it is still open or not, but I think I seen it advertising around valentines day.

Showtime is located on woodward in Detroit right next to the DIA. It used to be a great shop although it smelled like dog piss everytime I went in there (it's in detroit what do you expect). It had some great stuff that was worth dealing with the smell. A little pricey though.

I'd make mention of a store called "Krazed" in the town of Cadillac, about an hour west of good ol' Midland..... but you're looking for Detroit stores. :/

Thanks, everybody. I'll take up the few suggestions...not that I have a lot of money to blow, either!!

I seriously would make my own stuff (as an illustrator, I know I could draw my ideas out), but sewing is not my strong point, as I only have one hand to work with! Maybe I'm just stuck with teh intarwebs, eh...oh well. It's not like my life will end with what I've already got. I was just looking for other options.

Again, thanks!

I get most of my clothes (goth & otherwise) online. I have a few favorite eBay sellers I buy shitloads of stuff from... & there are several others with totally drool-worthy gothwear that's unfortunately out of my price range. Used to get a lot from Hot Topic website when they carried a good selection of plus sizes, but they seem to have recently decided us curvy grrls shouldn't wear anything but t-shirts.

Um--- are you male or female? I can recommend eBay sources for both but obviously I know where to get more female clothing. I'm guessing male based on your tag being Iyoko-kun rather than Iyoko-chan... but then again Iyoko sounds female... and everyone isn't as anal as me about these things anyway :wink

Never too old to go into Hot Topic. I take my niece there alot. Now when I walk in, a couple of the employees remember me and point out new stuff to me. I'm 49 and they have even pointed out stuff that I could wear to CC.

I personally like finding gothy stuff with in the main stream. Allot of regular local stores have items you can pair up with "real" goth cloths and make a whole outfit no one else will have.

Burlington coat factory -great skirts and flowing type tops, allot to mix n match

Sears - got my fav long black n red velvet dress on the clearance rack there years ago and have recently seen more items i would love to buy if i had the cash

Kohls- hit or miss but sale rack are always filled with stuff to think about

Dots - Found my fav black sweater there, with lady finger fringe on the collar and cuffs.

Debs- great daily wear

Lingerie shops - many great ideas for club wear once you sort through the stripperish stuff.

Not all these store stock allot of things i like or what i would imagine any one here liking to much but its like a treasure hunt and when you find that skirt top out fit etc..... you feel like you found something great

Really to me Goth fashion or Fashion in general is more about putting together pieces that fit your own style from many sources to make your own unique thing instead of limiting your self to what the Store/designer says is or is not goth etc......

Happy shopping!

Hey all, Homicid I would go into Sears and try on the shoes. Here they have wicked sales. I know for me I travel an hour or two outside my own homerange just to go to thrift stores. Get with some of your girlfriends or friends and have a day of it. Who knows what you can find? Yardsales are coming up. Honeychilds, hit those; they are big at finding clothes and shoes. Trust me. Make a day of it. :wink

Just have fun, don't spend to much, come back with loads of shopping. And remember, Hot Topic is for chitlins, not for us, dare I say it, old goths, goths that have been around forever. We keep on coming up with new designs and Hot Topic picks up on these designs a year or two later. :whip

I could not agree with you more. I honestly feel that there are a lot of goth of gothable items in most stores. But forget it this time of year. Spring and Summer are difficult seasons to find gothable clothes unless you surf the clearence racks. I actually just got a really nice pair of black jeans from Old Navy.

Hey it's like my ma always says, "You never know what they'll have."
