If You Hung Out @ Cc During The Mid 90s

For those of you who were around at City Club and/or Garden City Park in the mid to late 90's, you may remember Billy Korshorek. He kind of looked like Ozzy back then?

On Wednesday night, early Thursday morning he had a massive heart attack. It was determined that he needed a heart transplant. Due to his father dying in his early 40's of a heart attack, and that Billy was a smoker, they weren't sure if he would be eligible for the transplant. Before that was decided, his kidneys failed. He was on a respirator and had been sedated for a few days. He really never regained consciousness other than to open his eyes a couple times.

At somewhere between 1am and 2am Sunday morning, he passed away.

Billy was a good guy with a creative and poetic disposition. He was a great husband and loving father and it's sad to lose such a young person in this way (He was 31).

I was lucky enough to know him for 11 years, and he will be very missed.

Let's keep his wife Lauren and their son in our thoughts,

Lissa

Wow.

I didn't know Billy that well, but my first night ever at CC I was extremely intoxicated and was a bit on sensory overload. Was introduced to Billy through my friend I went out to CC with and Billy ended up taking me under his wing for the night and showed me around, introduced me to people, and entertained me in general.

Not holding my breath to be able to make it out to the Lab on Thursday, but will see what I can do.

You'll be missed, Billy.

This was back in the days when I was a CC regular - was always there on both nights. Billy was one of those group of people I hung out with back then and would pile in my car to and from CC. After that it was either on to Plakas in Greektown, Denny's on Southfield, or Ram's Horn anywhere. On the weeknights the whole lot of us would hang out at this coffeehouse in Dearborn. Every other week would be an open mic night where we'd show up with our notebooks of writings. Good times back then. Even have sketchbooks somewhere with some of his drawings (he and I would collaborate on comic ideas).

Eventually, this group would gradually drift apart as we'd have different and newer things going on in our individual lives. Good memories, though, of hanging with Billy, Izzy(RIP as well),Reagan,Muscles,Lizard,Kat,Pixie,Jester,Lauren,Rebecca,Judy,Colin,Wendy,to name a few of the circle(and inner circle) back then. He will be missed.
