ok... i will be hated after this, but after getting to size 18... possibly 20, i couldn't take it anymore. It took a year and a half of keeping track of what the hell i was shoving into my stomach. and yes, that's right down to the last calorie and on a daily basis. plus, on average how many calories i was burning.. which since i devotedly worked out 3 to 5 days a week 1 to 2 hours at a time.. it was a lot. oh.. i made charts.. and graphs and figured out what my "ideal" weight should be through fat percentages and it isn't 110 folks.. it's around 140 (and that's my 'athletic' weight-meaning, if i wanted to be in a normal weight range, i'd be a tad heavier.). oh and the charts on how many of my inches i lost was helpful too. i lost like 2 inches off my neck!!! 7 inches off my hips!

so i eventually lost 50lbs. and went from size 18 to a size 6 on bottom... ok.. so i'm still a 10 on top, but i'm top heavy, have broad shoulders, and i'm all muscley now.

yes, everyone should make an effort to eat right and exercise. and if everyone did, unless you actually have a thyroid condition, (which most people dont), there's no reason anyone would be fat. maybe squishy in all the right places, but not FAT. NOT OBESE.

i just couldnt get through the video... it only needed to be a minute long. i got the point after that.

instead of taking the time to make a video that involved... her time could have been spent better planning out and executing a diet and exercise routine. let alone the money and time it most likey took to buy a camera and then edit it-she probably could have used to go to a personal trainer to help her work off her XXX ass.

*sigh*

yes, we should respect ourselves and accept ourselves. i physically felt like hell when i was fat. so i decided to respect myself by do something about my general malaise towards my fat ass. most people dont have the time to exercise as much as i do, but i love lifting weights and running around like a mad fool. i make a point to schedule everything around it and i know most people dont have that luxury, especially if they have kids.

i also know that if there's an excuse to not exercise and not watch what you eat, I've used it and they are all lame.... theyre just excuses. its easier to sit around and think up excuses, like, "XXX is just how I'm supposed to be," than to get to the gym and then go through a nutrition program that's moderate and not just a stupid diet fad.

here's the website i used to keep track of my calories: Fitday.com It's free.

i tried, on average, to eat 500 calories less a day than what i burned. that's a weightloss of a half lb. a week. Slow, yes, but it helped me completely readjust what and how i ate. if anyone wants any other HEALTHY tips about losing weight, feel free to PM me.

3) 500 calorie deficit/day = approx 1lb loss per week - 1000 cal def. = app. 2 lbs...

4) check this link out!! (i'm just getting back to the gym myself, and this has been a real help!)

You shouldn't criticize something until you actually watch it! ;)

I didn't get that out of the video at all. It's more about dressing well and loving yourself. She does exercise.

Also, Hellequin, I'd be willing to bet that even at your healthy weight there are a LOT of stores where you'd not find a single thing to fit. It's ungodly how small some of the sizes in these stores are, and the employees look like the living dead (Not in a cool gothy way - literally skeletons).

yeah, i can't watch youtbe from work, and it may be all well and good, but i'm guessing that the person is saying something along the lines of "there's nothing wrong with being fat, i'm big and i'm beautiful, i love myself the way i am, so why change!" or similar... and while i'm all for accepting yourself for who you are, allowing yourself to remain obese and be happy/satisfied with it, has very little to do with loving yourself, (for if you did, you'd take care of your health) and a lot to do with being lazy. (my opinion)

with that being said, i reserve the right to change my opinion on this particular video after i've seen it!!

i watched the whole thing and i agree with everything hellequin said. it seemed like she was saying that she was forcing herself to be happy because she had no other choice, like it was their fault for not making clothing in her size.

i am also a size 6 and ive never been to a store where i couldnt find things to fit.

im going to stop before i rant

you're right.. 1 lb a week... i did average a half lb a week. so, considering i tried to eat 500 calories less a day, and usually got a half lb to a lb a week.. it relatively averaged out...

3500 less calories a week means you lose a lb a week

I thought you never looked bad to begin with, that is just me.

eh. i looked fine for a chubby girl. i was just sick of being cute and chubby. i felt like crap. i was always in pain from all the damn food in my system. there was no longer any excuse to remain like that. so i did something about it.

and i trust gauge's opinion on the rest of the video. like i said, i've heard all the excuses and justifications before.. because i've said them myself. and i just couldnt muster the strength to sit through it all. i lived it. there was real no point in watching it all.

I have dialup, so it takes a million years to play things from Youtube, so I haven't watched the video. People should be allowed to be happy with themselves, no matter what their size. Yeah, having weight is unhealthy, but someone shouldn't be made to feel like shit because of it. It sucks - I know. Yeah, some people are lazy, and some people actually have medical problems, and well, some people are happy with their weight and don't want to change, and I think that is just fine.

I was and still am not happy with the way I look, so last June, I decided to start doing something about it. I restrict my calories (to a number lower than most people would because I won't lose weight otherwise), and I exercise an hour and a half to two hours almost every day (there are days I'm tired, depressed, so I might only do a half hour). When it was warmer out, I walked 2 miles every day.

Since last June, I've lost 91 pounds. I still have a lot more to lose, and that's okay. I'm doing this for ME, not because someone said I should. I would NEVER tell an overweight person that they have to change and need to start eating less and losing weight. They know they are overweight, and if they want to change, they will. We don't need pressure from the rest of you.

bean, make sure you're eating enough... (to calculate kilograms from pounds, multiply pounds X 0.4535923699689 - to calculate centimeters from inches, multiply inches X 2.54... then use one of the formulas below, that i've highlighted in bold italics) too many people eat so little that their bodies go into starvation mode, and they end up burning muscle instead of fat, which decreases one's metabolism, creating a vicious cicrle... it might surprise some people to know that they might need to actually be eating a lot more than they currently are!!

The bottom line of fat loss is that calories in and calories out are the single over-riding factor. If you aren’t burning more calories per day than you’re taking in, then (barring exceptional genetics) you won’t lose much fat. After you get the nutritional part of the equation squared away, there are lots of neat things the body does that work in conjunction with the calories in vs. calories out principle, but the first thing to consider is still your daily caloric intake. There are a couple of ways to calculate your required daily intake; some are complicated, some are not.

We’ll start with the semi-complicated way (it’s not really complicated, but that’s an often heard excuse when given this method). The Harris Benedict method follows – the HB info is taken from the Clean Eating III thread by karocka.

Your Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) is the amount of calories your body (given normal metabolic conditions) burns in a day, given that you do nothing more than exist. No eating, no walking, no getting out of bed. These are your ‘existence’ calories. To calculate your BMR, use these formulas:

Men BMR = 66 + (6.3 x Body Weight in lbs) + (12.9 x Height in inches) - (6.8 x age)

Women BMR = 655 + (9.6 x weight in kilos) + (1.8 x height in cm) - (4.7 x age)

Now that you’ve got your BMR, you’ve got a good starting point for how your body (at your current weight) burns calories. Now it’s time to use that information and figure out how many calories you burn during a normal day. You know, when you crawl out of bed and actually do something. Take the BMR, and multiply it by the Activity Multiplier below that best describes your average day:

Activity Multiplier

Sedentary = 1.2 (little exercise, desk job)

Light Activity = 1.375 (light exercise/sports 1-3 days/wk)

Moderate Activity = 1.55 (moderate exercise/sports 3-5 days/week)

Very Active = 1.725 (heavy exercise/sports 6-7 days/week)

Extreme Activity = 1.9 (heavy exercise/sports, physically demanding job)

Now, if you’re trying to decide where you fall – say you’re thinking you may be between light and moderate activity – then pick a number in between. Remember, this isn’t exact, so don’t stress too hard.

So now you have a rough estimation of how many calories you use during the day, courtesy of the Harris Benedict method.

To figure out how many calories you want to take in every day, you need that first number from earlier, the one about lbs/week. If you want to lose 2lbs a week, you need to cut 2lbs worth of calories per week. A pound of fat is equivalent to about 3500 calories, so 2lbs is about a 7000 calorie deficit per week. Luckily, that divides nicely by the number of days in a week, so subtract 1000 cals from your Harris-Benedict number, and that’s what you need to take in. If you want to lose 1lb a week, subtract 500 cals a day. It’s that easy.

i'm just getting into this, but if anyone has any questions about any of this math, please let me know!! :wink

And us thin people shouldn't be made to feel guilty because we've been eating healthy and exercising our whole lives.

you call eating a chilli cheese coney with chilli cheese fries healthy? and a whole cheese cake!! and then work it off by shivering!!

you suck!!!!

:cry

oh go cry in your boston cream donut!!! before i squish you!

:wink

i found that using the math was a great jumping off point. after the weeks and then months rolled on, it was easier to figure out what i needed to do to continue to lose weight. i continually readjusted my weightloss goals as proportioned to my fat percentage. Yes, there are plenty of times my weightloss stalled and it sucked. but i would eat just a tad less and drink more water or work out a bit harder. The point is to not beat yourself up over the whole process and it helped to take my overall weightloss in mind and not just that days or weeks... as long as I was still losing after a couple o months of tracking everything: fat percentage, weight or inches. good luck everyone!

I gained about 20 lbs. from medication the doctor put me on about mid-last year. They later took me off towards the end of the year and switched it. I'm still within normal range for my age and height, seeing as though I was about 15 lbs. underweight to begin (always have been) ... I've began to lose some of it, but I'm okay with it.

yes, it's only meant as a starting point - and after a a few months, it's good to recalculate your nembers based on your new weight/activity level!

What ever you're all comfortable with...that's how you should be...

I pushed too hard hiking and running, leg presses, squats, etc...and now I've really screwed my knee up...

That wont stop me, thou...I can't push as hard now, but I still push.

*happy pixie dust stuff*

You're ALL beautiful people! Love yourselves!

i'm currently on a loose wieght drive. but recently the gain in wieght i've had is welcome as i've lost inches around waist and neck and other ranges (my legs always have been well cut from the amount of walking i do around here as i actually dislike driving unless i have to).

the kalaripayat lessons have helped a lot.

2 night a week i actually spend training with my guru involving meditation, physical excercise and self defensive arts. but the physical is the best bit.

when i finish typing up my sheets (you will have to excuse the translation as these were directly translated from sanscrit) i'll post them up

as for wieght, as said before, i like healthy looking women, and starved to death look is so third world

As much as I could probably stand to lose 15 pounds, I also know that I am loved and appreciated for who I am. I'm told repeatedly that I'm beautiful inside and out. I know I have some jelly around the belly. What-the-fuck-ever.

That video is awesome. I loved it, and so did my daughter.

The only thing I didn't like about the video was how she said that 95-98% of people who lose (what was it, like 50 or more lbs?) gain it back within a year, and "95-98%? That means EVERYBODY."

That was just... sad. It's hard to lose weight, granted, and it's ridiculous that fat people are treated like shit for something that REALLY isn't their fault a good 50% of the time, but that doesn't mean people who are unhealthy because of their weight can't affect a permanent lifestyle change that results in a longer, healthier life.
