So, I was just in another thread and I couldnt believe that most people there buy all their stuff online

and burn it to their ipods.

I love having ORIGINAL cds with the cover art.

I once waited a year for one of my wish list cds to come down to the price I'd want to pay used for.

How about you???

Is online music that ubiquitous?

Are cds becoming the new cassette???

I already posted this in my little forum dealy but ill say again.

First, I dont like having burned copies, I like CD art and the actual CD becuase they last longer.

I dont like downloading for several reasons. First and most importantly...it is stealing from the band, and yea i know some bands say to do it, but its better for the band to buy the music., especially if they arent a well known band. 2nd reason being I just dont like the idea of accidently getting a virus or some shit.

Im not going to bother listing the other reasons becuase those are the main reasons. I would hope that if you enjoy a band you would soport them by buying there music/merch and going to there shows. I do all 3

i like having the original cd if i want the WHOLE or at least majority of the cd. if i like the band i will definately buy the cd.

if i only want a song it is not worth buying an entire cd. some music i like (like what i listed in that other thread) i do NOT want the entire cd. that is usually because i like a song by that musician but not the musician or their music as a whole.

I wait for my boyfriend to buy me CD's and then I claim that I am the one that bought them. Or, I borrow the boyfriend's CD's, listen to them 1,000 times, return them, and ask him to burn the ones I like, and end up buying the albums because he doesn't have time to burn them. :grin

I like having CD's because I like having the album art and all the nifty stuff that comes with album ownership.

i dug on album stealership too, when i was dating this one guy... i even threw a walkmen cd in the cart at meijer once =D

i have no sympathy for people who can actually afford to pay for cds, so downloading music illegally is my way of fighting the machine. le mort a bourgious!!! (and yes, i'm aware that's probably *VERY* wrong, you frenchophiles... ;) )

cd's

cd's dont suffer computer viruses.

i buy a CD and back it to my MP3 player and store it safe. the cd will last longer, the artwork doesnt get dogeared and i have a hard copy incase the HDD fails on me.

so i could say i combine the two, but i only download whats officialy offered by the artist as a taster, if i like i'll buy it. its not like i'm not earning below the breadline atm

I do buy CDs but only if I like the artist's work and hope they aren't on a major label.

I prefer actual CDs because the audio quality is much higher than MP3's (including 320 KBS). Also if you want to make your real CDs last longer and still get the same audio quality just buy some CD-Rs and burn CD to CD. If one of mine gets stolen at the club what do I care, they're all copies anyway (well most of them. I need to buy some blanks).

I'll steal it if it's out of print for sure though (unless I can find it in good condition at a record store).

That "real CDs last longer" is crap. They're made almost as cheaply as the burnt ones. Compare a bought CD of today with a bought CD from the early 90's. The early CD is heavier (better weighted) and has a rounded edge usually.

Then there is a LOT of music online you just can't find on CD that if you don't download it you miss out on (especially white label mixes). Also a lot of my music is in mp3 because it's a royal pain in the ass to carry everything into the club. So I've got the one case of golden stuff and my mp3's are usually the highest quality of file I can find. Although the sound system where I'm spinning usually is sub-par and drunk people in a bar tend to not care as long as they can make out what's playing and there aren't any major errors in the file.

I have my own personal library.. which interlinks with other people's libraries.. and I legally download kilobytes of data which are than POSSIBLY and ACCIDENTALLY, through MAGICAL POWERS, made into music that may or may not exist, and does not really exist being data - in any way, shape, or form.

That is all. :sorcerer:
