DJ SATAN needs your help on good songs!!!

I'm off in some hick ass town with a very bad music scene. I'm starting to Dj and i'm finding it hard to find good vinyl. I have alot of digital files, but i'm looking only for vinyl. I'm currently using www.gemm.com for most of my buying, but if you know any better sources, i'd love you for the info (prices and participation may very  )

I'm not trying to stay within one style or genre, so here are a few tracks i have that i love playing thus far.... Junior Jack - Da Hype Ft. Robert smith, Plastikman - decks efx: Nitzer Ebb track, PLastikman: Smak, Josh Wink - higher states of consciousness, VNV nation, Kiew, positiva - ordinary world (Depech cover), alot off Hyman records, skinhy puppy, ect.

It's going to be a blend of minimalism, industriel, and tracks that ppl will HAVE to dance to!!!

I'm mostly lacking some new and old industriel tracks. I like EBM if it's good, but like most, i'm getting a little sick of it. I like android lust, front 242, skinny puppy, claire voyant, yelwork, current 93, coil, and way too many other bands to list.

When i saw Ronin of VNV nation spin, I about died of good music overdose. Can you guys pleeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaassssssssseeeeeeee help me. Any info would be much of help. Remember Vinyl too, not digi, i have alot of that already.

Are there any good websites that deal more industriel/Ebm music? One with file samples would be the best of all.

I have one saying about spinning tunes:

"Real DJ's spin vinyl"

Vinyl slinging takes talent, not a processor. People who dj with hard drives or cd mixers are in it for the money, not the art. The greats spin wax and keep digitization separate and secondary.

There's nothing like the feel of a precise cut off your own fingertips.. pushing or slowing the record along manually to make the mix work... multimixing with 3 or more inputs.... creating a mix that's a work of art.

That's my 'spin on it. Don't sell your conviction to vinyl short. Find your own downbeats...don't let the computer do it for you. That just makes you a jukebox with legs and arms.

i agree that spinning vinyl feels better, and i think sounds better. I'm not against digital, i think its a new form to add to our choices as Dj's.

I'm glad there are so many out there just playing digi and old NIN cd's (lol)

That just makes me seem better when i drop a new hecate or somatic track that no one even knew existed.

As Dj's we should push for newer tracks, and drop the overplayed ones. I can't stand going to the club and hearing vnv, apop, and wumpscut...let alone, even sometimes in that order *gack*

wtf, yeah, i like vnv and the others but some of them fuckers are just killing them!!!

BTW, thank you again DANIEL for the Zhark link!!!

and whatever your preference be: digi or vinyl, i give you props for loving the music.

This is a rather haughty thing to say. Many DJs spin digital and don't make any money. DJs, be it vinyl or digital, usually have a love for music they want to share. Vinyl DJs are still just DJs, and usually aren't making their own music. I'm not sure how one DJ can condescend any other, given this fact.

I came from the streets DJ wise. It was all about cut creating, scratching, creating sounds with raw materials. THERE'S the art. It was in the fingers and wrists and the ear for matching beats... not a cpu doing the work for you. I have a friend who uses laptops professionally, and I think his customers aren't getting their moneys worth. Just my opinion.

I came from the streets

That's nice, but that argument doesn't make any medium better than another. The only vinyl superiority argument I can agree with is the seniority factor - it's just been around longer, so it's proven and fully tested and everyone knows how it works.

Don't we all?

That it certainly is... just your opinion. DJing is still just playing someone else's music. It's not like you are crafting something of your own. The idea that one group of DJs think they are more skilled or hardcore than another is pretty silly. The art of DJing isn't special because of some skill with beat matching or mixing... most crowds don't even hear that sort of stuff. The skill comes from knowing the music, and how the crowds will react to it. The tools and techniques are completely secondary. I can agree that vinyl is cooler in most cases, but it certain doesn't get any points for being the only "real" format.

I am no DJ but it is fun to make Dj mixes using the new software and CD's. you can do things you couldn't do with vinyl. I'm just saying to me it is more fun to make personal mixes, nothing more or less than that. Oh and I grew up with Techno DJ's so i did use vinyl, Will Web and Sean Deason were friends of mine.

Something EVERYONE needs to read, including DJs

Personally it's about the music, the knowledge of music, and creating something new.

It IS in fact an art form if done properly, but most DJs are nothing but overglorified jukeboxes. Also some DJs get into production of music, and remixing the work of others, which is probably where the majority of the art lies.

Although if you ask me, packing a dance floor takes some skill, that is to do it properly where everyone has fun and stays on it.

Personally I use CD's and the computer, but I'm building a vinyl collection. I also only use my ear when mixing beats.

I also want to get into VJ'ing with music videos and other forms of video production. To do this I'm going to need to save up for a couple Pioneer DVJ turntables.

Also don't knock the DJs who look like they're in it for the money either, some of them just need the money to fuel their gear and music funds.

Also those of you who knock the computer guys need to reccheck your heads. While it is true audio quality is lower most people aren't going to notice. It's also easier to use a laptop than to come in with a couple Technics 1200's and a crate of vinyl (though if you have some sort of program, you still need the vinyl turntables).

I like EBM if it's good, but like most, i'm getting a little sick of it.

:blink

Something about 80s Ind/EBM/New Beat... has never bored me, I still dig all the classics...even though I've heard them a zillion times

Part of my fun djing now is fuzing 80s genres together in away that broadens and educates the listner

even the most preppy 35+ adult will rock to NIN, Renegade Soundwave and Die Warzau if mixed correctly

I have to keep re-evaluating the way I see/hear EBM, keeping it fresh like

mixing it up with Dance, Dub, Hip-hop, New Beat, Techno, House

I'm always saddend by an 80s night where the dj just slides the fader and plays the same stuff the same way
