L'Oreal Superior Preference Hair Color

Recommended Posts

I picked up a package of this to take care of the bleached crown I ended up with after my vermilion hair dye fiasco.

OMG - it worked SO good!

The color expert I initially consulted told me my hair is a perfect level 7 blonde. I don't know if it's just coincidence or if L'Oreal uses standard levels, but their #7 looked perfect when I put the shade example on the back of the box up to my own, untouched hair.

I put it on today and after only 15 minutes, it looked like it was perfect. I rinsed it out, styled and it looks fabulous. Going only 15 minutes did leave it still a touch lighter than the rest of my head, but it just resulted in a sort of multi-dimensional highlight effect that's actually kinda flattering. If I had left it on the full 25 minutes, I think it would have ended up PERFECTLY blending with the rest of my head.

I'm very happy with this product, and highly recommend it.

Speaking of hair, I was looking around because I wanted a new type of color - and they used to say "DON'T MIX DYES" Well, I noticed that with that brand you CAN use two different types of dyes to make your own shade - you just use 1/2 of each and the same brand. Most you can do this with but avoid nice and easy - it's rough and will dry out. Anyone eles try this besides me?

Someday, I'd like to try Sally's selection of permanent dyes instead of using the Punky Color vermilion on my underlayer - which I intend to do again once I've enjoyed having natural-looking hair again for a while.

But I have no idea the quality of anything they carry, or how it would translate to my hair. I don't - and won't - bleach before coloring, and it's so hard to tell what color my dark blonde would end up based on their swatches.

That's always the hardest part . . . . . How is this going to look on my particular hair?

Whenever I try to do anything other than black or deep brown, I simply end up with ever so slightly coloured hair and it brings out the auburn highlights A LOT. Which is not necessarily a bad thing, but if I'm going for RED and all I ever end up with is dark dark auburn, it's rather discouraging.

Ginevra - I would say rather aggrevating - Have you talked to one of the girls who works at Sally's about that? Surely they could recommend something that would work - Maybe you should just really lighten it and then try the darker shades? If thats what your going for anyway - I know I have naturally dark blond hair and I have been dying mine since I was 14 and my mom showed me what she learned when she went to school for hair. So thats why I kinda suggested that too. Sometimes thats the only way.
