I Would Be A Terrible Dog Owner

Recommended Posts

My ex went out of town and my daughters convinced me to dog sit their dad's new dog.

I wasn't looking forward to it at all. I'm more of a cat person, though I like to pet other people's dogs I don't really like it when they are all licky and slobbery, and I don't like dog smell.

This dog is the sweetest dog ever! She doesn't slobber on a person and she is just so loving and sweet. She never barked once except when someone came to the door. She stayed a week and now I miss her. They gave her a bath before she came over and she smelled good all week. She's an Australian shepherd and so sweet and obedient. She was hardly any trouble at all. (Didn't like picking up the doggie poop, though, heh, but I dealt with it).

I would be a terrible dog owner though. She is really well-trained but she could sense that I am such a pushover because she is sooooo cute, so she dragged me along when I'd walk her (my 10 year old can walk her better than I can) and even though she is overweight I could NOT resist giving her treats. Ugh. I'd probably give her diabetes so it's good she only stayed a week.

Here is a piccy:

cute!

Dogs are indeed a handful. You have to be SO dedicated to caring for them, and disciplining them. Both aspects are equally important to having a dog who both loves AND respects you.

I suppose that's why they call them fur children.

it's not really that bad... the hard part is keeping the discipline consistent if you're living with people who don't seem to understand that dogs are stupider than humans. as for attention, mine is a total whore but she's cool just lying on the bed staring at me type or practice my guitar or play video games, and when i get up to go do something she prances along with me, it's so cute...

There are no bad dogs... just bad dog owners

I mostly agree with this statement. I DO think that most people who think their pet is bad are wrong, and that it IS the fault of the owner, because they may not be patient enough, or consistent enough. But every once in an extremely great while, there is an exception to the rule.

i miss my dog. he use to jump up in my lap if i was on the computer for too long. then jump down, grab one of his toys that he knew i could throw from the angle i was at in our computer room, and have me do that for about a half hour at a time. *sighs* but she's an adorable pooch!
