New Job

Before I moved here, I had a fair amount of naysayers tell me that if Ulta didn't work out, I'd have a REALLY hard time finding a job. Everyone knows that Michigan's job market is shit. Ulta had made me many promises that they were unable to keep, despite the fact that at least 3 new store will be opening up in the next 18 months. I got my first write up ever, which some of you know hurt me greatly. This, despite the fact that my review was sent to Brighton from my former store in Hunt Valley. My review was phenominal. I got a nearly .50 raise, which is unheard of for a part-time employee in that company. They weren't giving me ANY hours, and that placed ALL the responsibility on Jeff. I was barely paying my own bills, which pissed me off more than anything.

I landed a job at a salon on Gratiot, doing nails. I've been a nail tech for over 22 years. They hadn't had a nail tech for a few years, so I have my work cut out for me there. STILL not enough to do what I need to do. STILL leaving Jeff to buy ALL the groceries and pay ALL the bills. NOT FAIR. He's wonderful. He'd do anything for me and my kids. But, I want to be able to do for him as well. So, I searched craigslist and looked for "Help Wanted" signs everywhere. I applied and interviewed my ass off. On Wednesday, I decided while in the shower that I was going to look up the closest Sephora store and see if they were hiring for anything at all.

I called the one inside JC Penney's on Gratiot. The manager answered the phone. I asked.

They were looking for part-time, nights and weekends. Well, THAT works. The kids will be out of school soon. I can spend the day with them, and go to work late in the day. Jeff will be around after 5:30. I'll still be at the salon, only Tuesday and Wednesday nights. Yeah, it takes away from the time I treasure with Jeff and the kids as a family. But now, I can contribute! I can pay my own bills! There's room for advancement! Besides, I've ALWAYS wanted to work for Sephora! They provide the uniforms!

And Ulta HATES the "S" word. It's their direct competition. And I cannot WAIT to tell them!!!!!

See? There really IS hope.

Thank you!

Good to hear.

But still, the job market in this state sucks ass.

True, but I guess I got lucky.

Lots o'luck Brenda :clover

Thank you!

grats babers, glad to hear that some of the stress is now gonna be lifted some

Seriously, Al. It just wasn't fair to Jeff. Once I pull myself back together again, I'll be better able to help with the household bills.
