i voted "multiple reasons."

obviously i DO go to city club most saturday nights because it's my favorite place to hang out that night because i know a lot of people there, dgners and non-dgners. i don't go there on saturdays because it's "dgn night," i go because it's the night they're open that i don't have to teach the next morning. hell, i have a few weeks off from that now, so it's likely as not i'll be there friday AND saturday night. friday night because there's no cover, pitchers are cheaper, and the music tends to be better, and saturday because there are actually people there that night.

but i agree with troy that the biased bitching has gotten old. if you really want to start up a successful club night with the help of the dgn krew, you'll just have to be a slimy promoter type who doesn't voice any public opinion other than "hey this place is a party off the hook all the time." the whole arrogant dj thing doesn't wear well, either. if you play it more like, "i'm just doing what i can to play the best jams! yippee!" you'll alienate fewer of the unwashed non-dj masses.

Its a loaded question.

I don't mind free speech but like 10000 posts a week on the subject from the same poster is getting tiresome.

Yeah I've kind of stopped caring what people think, completely. I don't DJ anywhere on Friday or Saturday. I'm just saying there are better other alternatives. I also didn't remember the other post asking the same question and I didn't think it was all that loaded either (except for option #2 heh).

Personally I think someone needs to bring back Industry or some place like it.

Whatever, I heard City Club will be dead soon anyhow, from multiple sources on LJ.

Kids and responsibilities is what I heard... and yes... CC never could get over itself enough to get competitive... it is never cleaned enough, and they never got the sound working enough...

And yet it's still the longest running club in detroit that hasn't changed owners, or management, or any major changes in format.... wierd.

The power of owning a club.... vs. renting the space to have a club

I thought they played Techno now? People try to get away with calling it EBM (or neo EBM as I call it because modern EBM does NOT sound like it did back in the 80's) )but no it's pure techno (This is why the firing of Chris Rohn was bullshit but we all knew that anyhow when it happened like 80 years ago).

I guess no "major" changes in format have happened though right? The club used to be punk, and play punkish music and some rock. I'm not old enough to cite references but I will ask this. When is the last time you heard Sisters of Mercy played there, not as a joke, and any time between 11:00 and 02:00?

Frankly, I'm not fond of it. It's such a dirty filthhole. However Jeff and I have friends who just LOVE it, so we go once in a while for them. I'd love to check out other clubs. I was at Mephisto's almost 2 years ago when I first visited Detroit. I liked it there. It was small and >gasp!< clean.Luna is RIGHT by our house. REALLY convenient. I realize that Gusoline Alley is not a "goth club," but it's far cleaner and I don't get accosted by beggars.

ARE there any other clubs besides Luna and Mephistos? I'm new here, so I have to ask.

I have always felt that CC does not get really interesting until about midnight and I have a decent amount of booze in me.

I work on Saturday and Sundays so in order to be in bed at a decent time, I need to stay local. Oh, and the booze and crowded dancefloor is out since I am 7 mos pregnant with twins.
