It Looks Like I May Soon Own A House

Recommended Posts

About a month ago I saw a house I adore. I played around with the idea of calling the realtor and going to look, but didn't at first. The more I looked at the photos the more I fell in love with this house.

It's a victorian style house, which I love, has the big cast iron bathtub with feet and the gorgeous original wood trimmings inside. It was built in 1910 and still has a lot of things that need fixing - electrical must be completely redone so it won't fry my computers, still has the old fuse systems.

I was trying to get my bearings where the house comes in as far as history - the Titantic sank two years after the house was built, first parade for women to get the right to vote was held in 1910, men and women dressed elegantly and went ballroom dancing - aaah. I can imagine how beautiful things must have looked on that street back then. I'd love to find out more of the history of the house.

There is a cute little back yard with a privacy fence, a deck, plus a fish pond (which is currently stagnant and green slime needs to be drained, cleaned and a fountain added back in) There's even an old piano that comes with the house. It will be a bit of work to restore everything. Even though it's a buyer's market here, this house was really a find and there were four other offers competing with mine, but mine was the winning offer. I am required to have closing in 35 days or the deal is off, so I am really hustling to get everything finished.

If it all goes as planned I will be moving the end of next month. More photos:

Awww, thanks Critter! Yeah, that's part of the reason it took me so long to look into buying but now I'm so glad I waited.

If I do ever move to the Detroit area I just may have to try to have the house moved with me - I love it so much!

Thanks Marblez! So far everything is going well.

I'm a private person and it's a bit uncomfortable having someone look at my bank statements and credit report stuff - they question everything! It's also a bit strange because the loan officer is actually the mother of one of my youngest daughter's friends. Just feels a bit weird to have someone I know doing all this.

I'm sure it will be worth it when I get into the house.

WoooW! NICE fuckin house! I'm jealous, I mean I'm 21 and own my own condo and stuff, but it doesn't even hold a match to that nice gem. I <3 old houses, I've always wanted to live in one especially from that era, or earlier even. I'm sure you'll be happy in it!

As for the above, don't even sweat it even though it's someone you know. I work in real estate and TRUST me on this, Loan Officers are kinda like doctors, not only have they seen everything before but there's wayyyy more people that have MUCH worse credit than you could possibly have. They process so much shit that the minute you close on the house, they'll forget any of your financial stats.

Thanks - yeah I know that they are very discrete. I just have to wonder what she will think when she sees stuff like tickets to the Vampire Ball on my bank statement, ROFL! Everyone here looks at me as more the soccer mom type. heh.

I love it!

I remember after I bought my house, walking through Home Depot for like the fortieth time and thinking 'I remember when I used to go to exotic places, jazz clubs in Rome, the French countryside, and now, I go to other exotic places, like Home Depot and my basement'

Still, I wouldn't give it up for an apartment ever again.

Congratulations!!!

Seriously, it's SO cute!

:) Yep, I do expect a lot of trips to places like Home Depot! The house needs a lot of renovation. I think I will enjoy most of it though.

I love old houses. Ours was built in 1908.

Good Luck Onyx. I hope everything goes smoothly for you.

Thankyou!

I sooo love old houses too. They have a certain feel that I just don't find in any other type of home.

nice house.

american architecture has so much more charecter than british homes

Thank you :)

I actually don't like most of the newer style houses, mainly just the older ones. Most of the homes after the 1960s just don't appeal to me at all.

  • 1 month later...

I just found out my loan finally went through, and I should have the key in my hand TOMORROW.

:happydance :happydance :happydance

(Can't move in yet because the electrical has to be redone, not up to code, but I will be able to start moving a few things while the electrician does the work). I am so excited! All the years of busting my butt working have finally paid off.
