I still think it's funny that people who play no instruments and don't know how to read music or use basic terminology can go on endless debates about "genre." It's all pop! Get over it!

That said- Cordially Invited by Goober and the Peas

This is true... rock is pop, goth is pop, industrial most of it is pop, techno is pop,

Theres just something about this songs power and the lyrics....

Angels Lyrics

Artist(Band):Within Temptation

Sparkling angel I believe

You were my savior in my time of need.

Blinded by faith couldn't hear

All the whispers, the warnings so clear.

I see the angels,

I'll lead them to your door.

There's no escape now,

No mercy no more.

No remorse cause I still remember

The smile when you tore me apart.

You took my heart,

Deceived me right from the start.

You showed me dreams,

I wished they'd turn into real.

You broke a promise and made me realize.

It was all just a lie.

Sparkling angel, couldn't see

Your dark intentions, your feelings for me.

Fallen angel, tell me why?

What is the reason, the thorn in your eye?

I see the angels,

I'll lead them to your door

There's no escape now

No mercy no more

No remorse cause I still remember

The smile when you tore me apart

You took my heart,

Deceived me right from the start.

You showed me dreams,

I wished they turn into real.

You broke a promise and made me realize.

It was all just a lie.

Could have been forever.

Now we have reached the end.

This world may have failed you,

It doesn't give you a reason why.

You could have chosen a different path in life.

The smile when you tore me apart.

You took my heart,

Deceived me right from the start.

You showed me dreams,

I wished they turn into real.

You broke the promise and made me realize.

It was all just a lie.

Could have been forever.

Now we have reached the end.

Gawd, I detest genre-definition debates... there are few things more pointless...

anyway I'ma jump on the "Bela Lugosi's Dead" bandwagon (hearse? gravewagon?)... it was the first thing that popped into my head when I read the thread title. "Every Day is Halloween" would be second choice.

And... it's hard to think of "Christian Woman" as a serious song when it has lines like "For her lust she'll burn in hell/her soul done medium well". Come on- Her soul done medium well?!?! How seriously can you take anything like that?

It doesn't unless you go by my modern definition of what goth is.

Actually it gets way more goth than that with the HIM cover (though still not technically goth by the traditional definition, with either song).

I think Foetus & Lydia Lunch's version of Don't Fear the Reaper was the gothest! If we're going back that far, how about even farther to 1956 with "I Put a Spell on You" by Screamin' Jay Hawkins. Dude rose up out of a coffin on stage, you can't get anymore goth than that!

But I'll go with Bela Lugosi's dead overall though, for serious, as far as actual gothic-labeled music goes.

Sadly, I prefer the Bette Midler version of "I Put A Spell On You" over the original any day :-P

And I'll also stick with the Cowbell in the original for Don't Fear The Reaper
