HARDLY ANY KICK TO IT? Get a .20 gauge shotgun. MUCH less kick with the same obliterating effect.

Alternatively if you don't wan to kill them you could find some salt shot (really stings) or rubber bullets to knock them down.

Keep in mind the spray that doesn't hit the intruder of the bird shot will hit other things in your home.

I say go to the shooting range and get some practice in. Then get a nice .38 since they're just a good overall weapon.

A pistol imho, is an unconventional means to home defence. unless your are absolutely sure you can kill a man in the seconds it takes to make your decision, line up the shot, and fire before he disarms you. its just not a good form of self or home defence. we all like to say "oh yeah I can do it" but untill you wear those boots you dont realy know.

I say a 12 gauge because its a good all around weapon for hunting as well as home defence. a 12 gauge with an unchoked load of bird shot can kill a man at six feet. and, the percentage of missing your intended target is very low. the 1187 is an excellent starter gun because it so easy to learn how to break down and clean, as well as quality for a low price. It also opens the door to gun enthusiasm, as well as hunting. I have killed and eaten just about every thing under the sun with mine except for pigeon (no point in hunting those, and it takes to many to make a meal) and grouse. my 9 year old daughters will use it when they get strong enough to hold it up and zero in on a target. right now they use a pellet gun and are both very good shots. they are just not big on field dressing the kill yet lol.

Dont get me wrong, pistols are fun to shoot. but, short of bravado, they are only meant for concealment, and killing another man. shooting at cans youll find gets kind of boring after a while. I guess ive done it so much I just prefer to be able to eat what i shoot at.

I can see that, however waking up at 4 am, most people are a bit groggy. Though if they're reaching for it they're awake enough to use it I guess. I also don't have that problem with "hitting the target".

i want to fire a webley .455 service revolver at some point. i've been told they are like straping a howitzer to your arm recoil-wise. sounds fun.

if i werent anti firearm i'd probably see about a 3.03 for target shooting.

Head Wreck. British and proud

Just to brief you on the difference between mace and pepper spray... there is a difference even though they do the same thing..

Mace shoots out in a jet stream, this gives it a longer range, however due to the jet stream if you hit someone in the face within less than 10 feet (well the kind I have, you risk the pressure being strong enough to puncture through their eyeballs, and inject the liquid into their eye, causing severe and permanent dammage, the closer they are, the more likely it will happen. THIS IS WHY IT'S ILLEAGLE.

Pepper spray, sprays out in a mist and is 100% safe (however very painful just the same) and cannot do any severe or permanent damage. however due to how it's propelled out of the cannister, it's range is very limited meaning your opponent has to be within one arms reach of you practically, which means you.. and your spray, are within reach of them... a relatively ineffective weapon against someone who is quicker than you.

Other forms of less than lethal weapons (I heard it asked somewhere and cannot remember if it was this thread or not)

The batton, or billy club. This is less than lethal and lethal at the same time. It depends on where you hit them. I really wouldn't recommend using this sort of weapon without proper training. There's basicly 3 classified zones to hit, red zones (kill zones) like the head, yellow zones (take down instantly) like the abdomen, groin, and knees, and green zones (make em back off) such as a bicep, tricep, ect.

There's also stun guns, and tazers, tazers are a projectile weapon (if you've seen Meet the Fockers, that goofy cop used one) and stun guns are close range. It's critical that unless you're up for a kill, to NOT use this weapon. If someone has a bad heart, or any implanted electronic devices for medical reasons (ie. a pacemaker) this weapon could very possibly kill them.

There's also certain types of ammunition such as bean bags or rubber bullets (was mentioned before, but to keep up with putting it all on one list) that you can by specially for your fire arm. They will not kill (lest you're a good enough aim to hit a certain area) but they are the MOST painful thing to have used on you. Personally, against one of these, I'd rather just take a real fucking bullet.

That's some general information for those who are interested.

Oddly... I know several ways how to make bombs too. But my all time favorite is just taking a rifle and shooting a propane tank from a distance.

And Gauge, that's gotta be pretty rough, wow... Screw the mace, if I were you I'd invest in either a switchblade or a butterfly knife. Learn how to effectively use them if you get them though.

lol yea thats what i said. thankfully i dont live their anymore but when i did i had a 6 foot spear in one corner, the other corner had all my swords and katanas, because of the fact that you could climb up to my balcony (i was only about a half storie up and even i could climb it) i kept daggers by my bed. anytime i went out i carried a butterfly and/or a flip out that i fucked with and basicaly turned into a switchblade. i knew how to use the butterfly the best, carried that with me everywhere, even to school after i had a guy threaten to stab my bf and make him watch while he raped me. . .yea talk about fucked up

Not to change the subject of this thread, but you find that sort of trash anywhere, some places are worse than others... honestly, I've realized it's always a possibility no matter where you're at, so I do like to have a good armory of weapons handy at my place in case there is ever a break in. Some can try to be bad ass's and say they don't believe in weapons (if they mean it by not believing in violence/fighting period, i more than agree with them then) but when it comes to street fighting, the only rule in my book is, get out alive, by any means possible. Truth is, most the time, you won't know who the person is, what that person is packing, or what he's mentally capable of doing. I always like having the upper hand.
