Troy Spiral (13)
Calendar View Question Do you think its better to have the default events calendar view be like this(weekly): http://www.detroitgothic.net/index.php?act...week=1180972436 or this(monthly): http://www.detroitgothic.net/index.php?act=calendar ? Also you have to factor in , that in the future there is going to be a lot more "spam" on any given page.

BrassFusion
i think the first one would be better for someone who just wants to get out of the house that night or the next night and doesn't have any special preference, while the second one would be better for someone who wants to see some special events coming up... personally, if i just want to go out, i already know where to go. i'd prefer the second one. possibly in some capacity where you could tone down the spam on it by choosing to not display weekly repeating "events" (i.e. club nights)

t1m3k1ll3r
Personally I like the second one. Maybe there can be an option to pick which one you want to see as default?
saechalyn
I have a general calendar suggestion. If one-time events (concerts, etc) could be in a different font color from established club nights, it would be easier to pick them out. That way people who already know what club nights there are but who might want to scan for other events can find them quickly.

BrassFusion
+2. that or a toggle where you could turn off weekly repeating. color codes is probably a much better idea

Scary Guy
Weekly as monthly events tend to take up the whole block, then you have to click anyhow to see what they are. Phee and Odims "If you choose not to decide you still have made a choice" (sorry listening to Rush ATM). Or you could just put both options there for people to choose, because we all like choices. Actually you have to choose to have it repeat every week, otherwise it stays a single event. Also color codes don't work for me since I override everything anyhow. It's all black background and silver font with links in my specified colors too.

Troy Spiral (13)
How could you "have no opinion"? YOu click on the links and look at them and decide what you think is more useful or you "prefer" (whatever that might mean) You will have an opinion and like it! I assume "i have no opinion" means "i dont mind either way"?

That could be added, but since it'd be a bit of work , and it will probably get very little use i'd have to put that on the back burner. I think the whole calendar layout in general needs some work, regardless of view. The "future months" thing on the left hand side just takes up too much space. And the weekly view formatting looks odd. I think generally most people expect to see something more like the weekly view, but with at least a months-long list of events? 30 days rather than 7. (if that made any sense)

That'll have to change somehow. *ponders* Scary Guy said: That already exist. Actually you have to choose to have it repeat every week, otherwise it stays a single event. I think they are referring to just the overall view, rather than the choices that the promoters make when they add their events.

At least for me that is, I personally don't look at it. I think it's a great idea and a valueble function of the board just for me personally I don't have a need for it. For me to have opnions on something I'm not going to use seems kinda egotiscical to me. Edited June 6, 2007 by odims_sphere continued thought. DeadBurgerKing (10)
I'd have to agree with Rayne. It looks a little bit more clean and organized in the weekly one. And it's easier to read the events as opposed to monthly being kinda squished together. I'm not saying that the monthly one is not neat or unorganized. It's just that I personally think the default should be weekly, then if the user wants it by month, they could just change the view, right? Guest GodfallenPromos
As an up-in-coming booking agency and promoter for the Detroit area, The 2nd view is much better, because while Godfallen Promotions is a "think of your feet" company, we do as much as we can to not collide with many of the other special events in the area, as we ourselves are developing into a "event specialist" company, only doing 1-2 shows a month with special themes. I like this guy's idea, lets go with that. I mean how hard would this be to implement. Create a two tone banner with an image map. Right side is for monthly view left side is for weekly view. It won't effect load time at all either. Edited June 11, 2007 by Scary Guy
