Is It Always Better To Tell The Truth?

Recommended Posts

Figured it out finally, had to relate it to statistics though, which are facts, but not necessarily true. Actually 90% of all statistical facts are made up and/or completely inaccurate (as is this one, which is a bit of a paradox). So this is why I don't teach English, and you all could have explained this better.

What i mean by it at least in this case is "be honest, tell the facts and your true feelings as you understand them." Not that you have some magic wand that lets you always know what the true "objective reality" is in some philosophical sense.

so to paraphrase, you're asking, "should we always be open and honest about our thoughts/feelings/beliefs to others", is this correct?

I'm sure the question could also extend to whether it's ethical to lie about things that are more or less fact, like... anti-drug campaigns that seek to squash pro-drug findings from non-biased studies on the grounds that "all drugs are always bad" even if they can't be scientifically shown to be "bad."

My whole spin on this subject is... i treat people how I want to be treated. I honest to god honor truth above all. With no tact, i mean i'd rather hear how someone really feels about me or something else than try to beat around the bush and sugar coat it. This is real life, not some silly Disney movie. And since I hold this to the highest respect in my book, I don't give anything less than the blunt truth. I use tact in some situations, and always try to tell it as bluntly as I can but in a way that makes the other person try to get the point i'm trying to make however... most people completely take what I say the wrong way and can't handle constructive criticizm at all. The only times where I stop that and just get mean about it is when I feel that person just won't listen period. I also try to find humor in everything, cuz if you can't find humor in it and get offended, I feel you're missing the whole point in life.

If they don't ask don't tell....

just kidding.

tell the truth....it will help your blood pressure, anxiety and heart problems.

White Lies? Still a lie.

Sugar Coating? Well, thats being tactful......I'd rather it be tactful and full of sincerety than to be "called out" or harshly awakened....you know?

I'm sensitive.

I'll cry.

A lie is a lie, the truth is fact, and the fact is, this is truth.

agreed 100%. Some friends I got are rather sensative, and it's not a bad thing to me, it just depends on the situation. Sometimes I try to be tactful and say it gently but still get to the point... other times, i feel that the blunt truth might just wake them up and prevent them from further problems or emotional pain. Either way I chose though isn't on a whim, I do take careful consideration as to exactly what way i should present the facts based on what they're like. But I never say something's ok when it's not.
