What Game Are You Obsessed With Now

Recommended Posts

In order to keep from threadjacking the "I got hooked" thread I'm starting this one for posting your current video game obsessions.

Right now for me it's Combat Mission: Beyond Overlord.

I know it's a little outdated but we used to play it in Iraq. We'd set up a network and waige WWII combat on each other.

The games I'm currently working on are Final Fantasy 3, Final Fantasy 12, Zelda The Twilight Princess and Phantasy Star Online Episode 1 and 2 Plus. FF 12, Zelda and PSO I've allready beaten, but I'm perfectionist when it comes to games. I have to do and have EVERYTHING in order for me to be done. Right now I have spent over 200 hours on FF12 and, get this Nienna, I have maxed out the clock in FF3!! It's permently stuck at "99:59:59". Yea....

After some cursing and hurting my right hand banging it against the metal armrest of a chair, I finally got to the final boss of "The New Super Mario Bros." for Nintendo DS.. with 1 life, as normal sized Mario, and was raped. So I quit, for now.

My friends want me to get into KOL.. I'm afraid I might get addicted so I haven't checked it out yet.

You get about 40 turns a day, so it's not really addictive because it won't let you be by design.

Oh yeah The Dead Society has a clan on there. Yeah I'm the only member of that clan but I'm having fun.

If i'm being honest about most-recent addictions and not just listing off random stuff i've loved over the years:

Most recently: http://Tibia.com very simple cartoony type game. VERY VERY simplified EverQuest-World of Warcraft type game. Free to play , forever basicly if you dont mind playing without the frills.

Before that i was playing Wahammer 40,000: Dawn Of War a lot. So sweet to see the Gothic/ Sci-Fi world of Warhammer 40k that I've been reading / playing for like 20 years animated on screen. In terms of gameplay SC2 / WCIII are probably slightly better, but the Mythos of Warhammer 40k is ... well just to god damn kick ass.

For about a year and a half before that i was basically a "professional" World of Warcraft player. Sucked my life away too much , had to stop. I could easily get sucked back into it if i had "real life" friends that were as psycho as me about it. But, most people are too casual , and being so far ahead of them all the time is frustrating.

Also its near impossible to spend 40+ hours a week working on DGN and 40+ on warcraft at the same time. =P

Aside about Odims mention of Combat Mission:

Combat Mission fucking ROCKS. Afrika Corps is the most recent release of it. Combat Mission 2 , known as Combat Mission: Shock Force is coming out next month. I'd suggest getting involved in the message board community for it if you really wana see some psycho military game buffs and learn a ton about the game that would be impossible to do otherwise. For anyone just randomly reading this the demo of combat mission is basicly a full-fledged game in and of itself: BattleFront.com

That is pretty much the best "real" military strategy game in existence. Thats one game that was "outdated" graphics wise the day it came out. That is part of the beauty of it. They don't even try to be cutting edge in terms of graphics. I've been playing that on and off for years and years. I played just the demo for almost 2 years on various difficulty settings. Its really amazing if you take the time to learn some of the subtleties of it. (its to complex to really ever 'master')

The crumby graphics make you think the game is simple at first, but there is some insanely detailed, realistic calculations going on based on everything from very detailed troop moral AI, to insanely detailed armor penetration geometry / calculus.

For many years now, I've had this horrible obsession with Dark Alliance games. Baldur's Gate is my fave.

Me and the GF are currently playing thru the second one.

Mmm ... Baldur's Gate. :drool

"I serve the Flaming Fist!" My only disappointment is I couldn't kill Immoen.

I'm playing thru that as well. Maybe one of these days I will actually manage to finish it. I've finished BG2 and Throne but never did finish the first one. So I'm starting all over and Immoen is already starting to annoy me, and I haven't even picked up Jaheira and Khalid yet.
