Hand Tattoos

Recommended Posts

I've read a lot about looking around for tattoos and finding the right artist, and I'm in no rush to get inked.. but I've been wanting to get inked for a long time. Originally I was going to go with tribal on my arm if I could find an artist I liked to draw a custom design that I'd obviously like and fit the measurements, still might get it down the line if I ever find an artist and figure out how to measure the space I want tattooed.

I'm also really interested in, and I'm sure I'll get a lot of recommendations against it, is hand tattoos, as in, right on the backside of the hand.

If I got one of these it would be my first time getting a tattoo, and I know I have to find an artist with a damn good portfolio, even though I'm not planning anything extremely detailed. I also have read that specially visible tattoos can make it even more difficult to get employed, and I've seen some hand tatts where there was enormous swelling (but these were more detailed then anything I want). So if you know anything about hand tattoos, or people who've gotten them, I'd like to know 'bout it.

depending on the kind of work you do, and how big it is you might get some fall out (where the tattoo around the outside just starts to fade and disapear) the major swelling is usually do to improper care mixed with the fact that your hands touch everything= lots of germs

how much do you feel like traveling for an artist?

When the time came where I have the money, I'd travel anywhere around State, or maybe Ohio, or Indiana.

U should get fuck across your knuckles.

If I end up framed and in prison like in a B-rated movie, I'll think 'bout it.

well, if you're dating someone, or married, or involved, never ever get her name tattooed on your hand(or anywhere else on your body for that matter).

A few years ago, I was sharing an apartment with a female roommate, who has a guy's name tattooed on the top of her left hand. She broke up with him after she got the tatt. So, every man she meets has to see that guy's name.

You could be like Ozzy Osbourne and get your name tattooed across your knuckles, if it would fit.

You want to get tattoo(s) on the palm area of your hands?

Well seeing that this would be your first tattoo wouldn't you rather get it somewhere else say - upper arm for instance?

Give it a try and see how you like it? (just my suggestion of course)

I know lots of people that have tattoo's and most of them are tattoo artists and they always recommend to any newbie to try it out elsewhere first.

The main reason is swelling - pain - taking care of it till it heals up and with your hands, even only getting one palm done - you'll find out right quick how much you need it for day to day living. Also - the tattooist will tell you not to use your hand while the ink sets in and dries - that means not making a fist or using the hand for other daily activities that would put the ink at risk. And when the itching sets in - it won't be an easy phase (I know this because I have several tatt's).

Just some things to think about. When I can I'll ask my tattoo friends for some more info on this subject.

If I were to get a tat on the palm of my hand... I'd get a tatoo of hair *nyuk nyuk* seriously though, I've had to go without a hand for about 4 weeks as it was healing from a stupid blunder on my part (I accidentally got a knife stuck in my left index finger knuckle.. my own fault, but had to get the ligament stiched up) Needless to say, it was a pain in the fuckin ass to only have one usable hand for the time. As for tats, I'm kind of in the same boat as you are, I play with the idea of getting one, but not quite sure what I could live with, or where I'd want it..

I've said that tattoos are like getting married, it's painful somewhat, and it's intended to last forever...

much like how a divorce is like tattoo removal... just like getting one, only a lot more painful and a lot more expensive to do.

Noted

I was thinking of getting a tatt that would be on the backside, not palm.

Thanks for the advice, I'd like to hear more if your friends have anything to say about them.

Yeah, I don't want to rush into it either, and I wanna find an artist I'm confident in. I read it's good to wait a year, and if you still want it just as much, then go for it. I've wanted Tribal for over a year now on my arm, so I'm starting to think I might go with that first like Der Nister suggested. I'm sure if I looked around DA enough I could find a talented artist to do a custom design.. I just have no idea how to measure the space I'd want tattooed, I want it wrapping around my arm and coming up my neck and off my wrist a bit.. which is more along the lines of something a tattoo artist would do freestyle (from what I've gathered).
