Destroit
Most of you have probably read my bitchings about my car and how it got totalled and how I'd have to wait until fall just to get a used one yadda yadda blah crap whatev. WELP, since my momma's gettin a new car for herself tomorrow I get her old piece of shit 1994 Geo Metro (scary because it's manual, but I'm a good learner). I've never been happier to get such a piece of broken down worthless shit as a present, but the gas mileage on it is fucking ridiculously awesome. Soooooo y'all will start seein my ass around at clubs more, now that I can, you know, get there and stuff. To show my joy here are some dancing marshmallows: BE HAPPY FOR ME

Actually, you've seen my mom's car, if I so much as tapped anything with it, the whole fucking rust bucket would most likely fall apart.
Msterbeau
Come on up here and teach me lol. I dunno, my mom's gonna try to teach me, it shouldn't be that hard, right? I'll start you off from here. 1. Be patient.. It takes a little while to get used to doing it. Getting pissed because you stall the car two dozen times won't help. It's part of learning. 2. Geo Metros don't have much torque. Be prepared to rev the motor a little (Not a lot) before you release the clutch to start off. 3. Be smooth. Smooth counts. 4. Don't keep your foot on the clutch all the time. You might disengage it slightly and wear the clutch out a lot more quickly then normal. 5. Go practice away from other cars and traffic. You don't need the pressure of worrying about others while you learn.

Destroit
Oh I know, my mom says it gets some getting used to, but you get better control over the car apparantly. I see how it makes sense, for the past few weeks whenever she drove she'd be telling me what she was doing when she did and why she did. It doesn't seem all THAT complicated. Oh well wish me luck. I do get to drive her new car for a week though, which gets me hot in ways you can't even understand, because I told her I need to get used to driving again period. I never thought I'd have to, I'm a DAMN good driver, but after the accident driving altogether scares me a little, even though my boyfriend was driving my car when it happened. I think I'm just nervous about driving her car because if I get so much as a scratch on it I'm fucking DEAD. No pressure, right?
creatureofthenyte
the only really challenging thing about driving manual is, hills. You have to practice, and somewhat master, taking your right foot off the brake pedal and transferring it to the gas, while letting up on the clutch pedal with your left foot, doing all of this in pretty much one simultaneous movement. There will be a point that you have to discover with your car, how much you have to let up on the clutch pedal to get the car to hold and move forward. Definitely practice this before you do any major driving, as rolling back could be costly and embarassing. Yes, if you take your foot off the brake with the clutch pedal pressed down, you will roll back wards if you are on an up hill Good luck, its nerve racking at first, but you will grow to love it. I could tell her about heel and toe and other more advance techniques to help on hills and such but that would just confuse her until she had the basics down... sass_in_the_pants
Driving a stick is easy - I've been driving one for years, and I'm a moron. And now, I love driving a stick so much, I won't go back to an automotic.
creatureofthenyte
I remember when I bought my first car, it was a manual and I didnt know how to drive it lol. I was taught and for alittle while I was waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay nervous, especially when I had to deal with my first hill by myself. I kind of miss it. The thing I liked most was, in the winter, if I was drivin around and started to skid, I could put the clutch in and allow the wheels to stop spinning and then I could regain contol over the car. So, you definitely have more contol over the car which is nice.

Not to bust your bubble... and this applies to probably everyone on this board (And most people in this world) except one, besides me. You are NOT a damn good driver. You may be decent. Avoiding accidents and tickets does not qualify anyone as damn good. Until you spend a few years racing - pushing a car to it's absolute limits a bunch of times... you just aren't that great. I should know. I was amazed at my skill level after that period of time. I thought I was the shit beforehand. Not so much. I have no clue why people all think they're great drivers. Complete bullshit. And pushing a car on the street is bullshit too. You may *think* you're going all out. You're not. Save it for the track. The only people who have truly gone all out on the street are dead or in jail. Or should be. Take your time, learn the skills well, and you'll be cool. When you got it down, I'll teach ya some new tricks. :-)
