Permed Hair

Recommended Posts

I have been perming my hair since 1978. I was 14 & a half years old at the time & have been perming it ever since. I don't think that it has done any real damage to my hair, but my hubby thinks that I should give my hair a break once in a while. For those of you who work in salons what do you think? I perm my hair mainly because I hate my straight hair & also because my hair is oily. It also gives my hair body.

I don't work in a salon. But I had spiral perms pretty regularly since the late 80's.

They do a number on the hair, that's for sure. I do advise giving them a break - or quitting them altogether, actually.

Straight hair is more "the style" now than curly. I'm not one to go with trends or fads - I march to my own tune. But I've seen some women with both straight hair and curly, and almost without fail, they look more attractive, younger, and thinner with straight hair.

If you want to continue with perms, you might want to shop around salons for people who know what they're doing, and are into innovative methods. I recently started going to a local woman who is the first person ever to say that my fine, delicate hair should be permed for body only, and with a product made for colored hair (which mine isn't) and left on only 3 minutes. Every person I've ever gone to in the past insisted my hair was hard to perm and left it on seemingly forever. The result has been years of mega-frizz and damage that could only be tamed with lots of products like Frizz Ease.

Whatever you choose, good luck. :)
