The Hearse

Recommended Posts

Well, the hearse is done for the moment with the mechanic until I can get some more money. Immediate things to be done to it yet are to replace the U-joints as you can feel they are getting shot. Also still needs the pneumatic ignition, and a dual exhaust system as mine currently has a leak somewhere. I am also going to be working on getting a whole sound system installed into it. The box in the cab behind the front seat will house likely 4 12" woofers or something similiar. For now, here are the then and now photo results of the rebuilt engine $3100 later.

omg - I am jelouse as FUCK!!!

I used to work at Murray's - and some guy offered to trade he his hearse for my car - I had a '92 Cougar with a v8 and 5.0 liter engine - and altho he had the same engine, my car weighed A LOT less - so I could go a lot faster, teehee ;)

I have a NEED for speed, LOL!!

I am a car guy too, I have a few suggestions for parts you could add to your hearse:

1) Ignition kit from MSD( I think they make one for Caddy V8's)(this will make the engine start easier, and make more power AND improve gas mileage)

2) A set of exhaust headers( Hedman is the best brand, dunno if they make'em for caddy's but if they don't someone else does)

2a)get the headers coated so they don't rust out on ya

3) A pair of Flowmaster mufflers for the dual exhaust system, you will LOVE the sound & power they make. Run 2 & 1/2 " diameter piping in your dual exhaust.

4) Use synthetic motor oil in the engine, yeah it costs more, but its worth it cuz the engine will get better gas mileage, and will last longer and run cooler.

All of these parts can be ordered from Summit Racing Equipment, www.summitracing.com

I'm not pluggin them persay, I do business with them and their good!

Actually most of that was what I had planned for it like the exhaust, and ignition. The headers are already covered as the mechanic was pretty thorough in the rebuild process. I drove it around today until it literally ran out of gas. The gas gauge is totally off as it showed just under half a tank when it ran out. When I put 15 gallons in it, the guage went up to full. Going to have to get that one worked on eventually but at least I know where it empties out at.

Most likely, the fuel guage sending unit, inside the gas tank, is probably shot, hence the issue with the gas guage. Your mechanic will have to diagnose that, to see if its the sending unit that needs to be replaced, or if the gas guage is shot also. Definitely wanna get that fixed though.
