I have wondered the same thing actually since there's only a small number of us here that actually post anything. Most the time you do see non posters logged on during random moments of the day, they just probably lurk, may post some day, may not, but it shows we're an interesting bunch to read.

Other's probably just couldn't get into the whole forum thing, I wasn't really into forums until this place... then it became my crack... damn you all DGN lmao. We all got some inactive accounts somewhere... lord knows I do, i have shitloads all over the internet. I just kinda forget about em... same coulda happened with some of these members.

I'd say less than 1 in 50-100 turns into a "real poster" whatever that means. Has a lot to do with how they are treated when they first show up, there's a whole psychological progression that goes on.

I don't keep up much with how many people join daily... But it seems like we greet a new person or two every other day or so.. How can they not feel welcomed?

(Except for the snotty spam girl the other day... Oops)

Having taken a quick look at a 10 or so other boards im on our "number of registered users" to "average users online" is pretty good actually though, but definitely could use improvement.

he actual "welcome posts" are probably like 2-3 a week averaged over say the last 6 months. But some never even see the welcome post as the never read the "introductions" section after (or before) registering.

If they get a few "welcome PMs" directly to them that has seemed to help a LOT.

Often a "dead on arrival" poster has been turned into a "real" poster by a lengthly welcome post, and a PM saying "have you seeing this welcome post?"

Take a look at the number of new posters on the members list, vs how many people have actually had welcome posts made, its very small.

But my energy for such things isn't always up to speed.

At some point here i want to work out some sort of Registration > Welcome Post > Welcome Thread > Check On Them > Check Again type progression. But its a ton of work.

Another factor is how they FOUND the board. People that were told about DGN by "real life" means seem to have a much larger percentage chance to become "real posters" that found us via a friend, person they met at a club or some such rather than a link off a website or a search engine.

Luckily over 60% of our "visits" are direct traffic, meaning they type detroitgothic.net in their browsers. This is hint that assumes repeat visitors, that found out about us in "real life" rather than people from links or search engines.
