Have you ever Dyed your hair a lighter color?

Recommended Posts

Depends on how much lighter you want to go.

I have naturally black hair. I tried, unsuccessfully, to go lighter shades of brown/auburn for some time. VERY limited success.

I finally said "screw it" and bleached my hair with the thought that I could then colour it the way I wanted it. But after the bleaching, it turned out well enough (at least I thought). There's a photo in the Gallery if you're interested in seeing it.

So the answer to your question is bleaching but it really is hard on your hair.

It VERY hard to go lighter without professional help. Usually I've either ruined my hair, or had a weird or completely failed result. I'm rocking a red thats about 1-2 shades lighter than my normal color. It turned out ok.

I bleach my hair, when i am not off on an annoying bright color kick.

when i was young i had extreamly light blonde hair, but after is started ot have kids my hair got darker and darker so i have been bleaching it ever since, with the bleach i am many shades lighter then i was when i was a kid, with out the bleach i am now a very dark yucky brown, or atleast thats how my roots look when they grow in.......

dude i love my hair bleached

as dumb as it sound i feel my

hair is more moldable when its

i guess you could say dead. hm.

but yea i'm too poor and lazy to

keep up with it. on some people

blonde hair and dark roots looks

REALLY good, but on me with my

thick hair it just looked really

greasy. so i suppose it all depends

on what you're doing with it.

OK some of you said what I was getting at without knowing it

Main Entry: ²dye

Function: verb

Inflected Form(s): dyed; dyeing

transitive senses

1 : to add or impart a new and often permanent color to especially by impregnating with a dye

that is basically saying you can not dye your hair a lighter color. You can bleach it and tint or dye it to a color that was lighter than when you started. but just plane dyeing is out of the question. And for you chocolates saying oh yea I used Clairol to get to honey blond in one step I say " you just bleached and tinted it at the same time" and "Are you enjoying you new head of straw?"

  • 3 weeks later...

I've went from black back to blond before.. it was a hell of a job but it still worked. It took me 3 tries to get it back to where I wanted it and it didn't have that straw feeling, mainly cuz I waited a while In between dye jobs. In the end I just ended up dying it back to black cuz I missed my red streaks

Have you ever Dyed your hair a lighter color?

How did you acomplish this merical?

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

My hair was, no shit, unnaturally white from October 2004 to March 2005. Ask all the Necto regulars.

I did it with a lot of weekly bleaching and Special Effects Toner. It looks light purple, but it's specially formulated to neutralise the yellowness that comes from bleaching your hair.

On the good side, I absolutely loved the way it looked and adored the attention and questions about how my hair got so white. One time, even, a woman on the bus asked me if I was albino (which I found flattering, as the first time I saw an albino when I was a little kid, my mom told me that I thought he was a real angel).

On the bad side, my hair is a dark brown/auburn, naturally, so it required a *lot* of upkeep to keep from looking like a film-negative of a skunk. This is time consuming and can get expensive. It also damaged my hair to the point that, while it still grew, the ends were so fuzzy that it was best to keep my hair very short.

Of course, I *do* plan on doing it again, mainly because it looked so good on me, but the fact that nobody else does it is enticing.
