Hey Second Lifers! (like Me)

Recommended Posts

::..Okay, I was on Second Life the other day and was thinking "Why not create a group just for DGN and promote the shit out of it or something?"...I know it is kinda raw and in the works-sounding but we could SO pimp the hell out of this place on there!! I have no problem diving into Photoshop and making an ad and getting it advertised on a billboard but there has to be more we can do! Hit me up and let me know whatcha think!!...::

I only know of myself and one other DGN'er who are on SL.

I have a pretty active character, and I've already had some original music played at a club.

My husband is active, too, but he's an otter. :) He sticks to furnation unless he's after money at a 'sploder, and recently those were made illegal.

It sounds like a good idea, but I'm not sure how much it'll fly if other DGNers aren't on it.

Second Life (SL) is, basically, an online version of The Sims - only moreso.

You create an avatar, and live whatever life you want.

I discovered it through Rolling Stone magazine. They had an article over a year ago about how some bands are using SL to promote their music. Duran Duran, Susan Vega, and even Kurt Vonnegut have SL "personnas" they "perform" with.

I originally got on it with hopes of someday doing the same with my music. A few months ago, one of the "clubs" I frequent had a "karaoke" night. Instead of babbling into a microphone like everybody else did, I submitted a copy of the song you hear when you visit my Myspace page. The reaction was overwhelming. I've been asked to return for a "live event" and "perform" my original music. JUST what I was hoping to get out of it.

But it's also there to play with as you please. As I mentioned, Jon has an otter avatar, and "hangs out" in the sims (individually created "nations" or "worlds" or "islands") in Furnation - basically anthropomorphics come to life.

You can just "walk around" or you can get really involved in varying ways. There is some RPG, for instance, I'm working on basically making my character a warrior. I have a sword, and "scripts" which enable me to fight and inflict harm - and also to be "hurt". Characters don't really die, but you can end up debilitated. I haven't gotten into that aspect yet.

My profile:

Somewhere between human & feline. Rogue warrior, loyal to none, I fight for what pleases me at the time. Good/evil - all the same to me.

I.AM.NOT.NEKO! I'm a feral carnivore shape-shifter, stuck between forms, and it makes me cranky - be warned. My features are feline - and I DO bite.

Not a vampire per se. But I enjoy some blood play - both giving and receiving. Vampires make me purr.

I have a furry persona I slip into once in a while & am furry-friendly, but don't even THINK of mentioning yiffing to me.

I bored with it some months ago, and only pop on occasionally. I won't go back in earnest until I have more music to promote, or when I get bored.

You don't have to pay to play. But to buy things like custom-made avatars, clothing, weapons, homes, or to "own" land, you have to put US$ into it. They get exchanged into "Linden Dollars" or L$. $20 U.S. will get you about L$10,000. An outfit such as the one my avatar is wearing in the pics below costs about L$500, the boots cost about $1,000, the hair about L$200, the jewelry - everything is purchased. You can also create your own, using templates and photoshop - uploading costs L$10 per upload/item.

My avatar - Critter Wildcat

I created my own body shape, face shape, and skin color using SL's slider-based avatar creator. The make-up, eyes, and teeth I did myself in Photoshop - they're uploaded as "textures" you apply to your avatar as tattoos or "skins".

I also bought the hair and purchased separate textures to make it the black and red shade.

It can be as simple or as complex as you please.

There are "animations" you can purchase or click on that will make you do everything from curtsey to fuck.

Yes, you can have sex. Some people even become "escorts", earning around L$5000 for a screw.

You can also exchange Linden dollars for US$. So money can be made if you design and sell clothing for instance, or escort or other "jobs". There is some controversy over taxation that doesn't happen, and this also resulted in the recent banning of all forms of gambling on SL. You used to be able to make $L by going to casinos, even putting money in raffles, stuff like that. All that was made illegal very recently.

Basically - it's a 3D chatroom at heart. Albeit a fantastically complex one.

I've been on SecondLife for a while i got an avatar named Mercy Detritus (click here for pics of my av some are NSFW). If you make the group send me an invite. Also another thing besides just making the group that would help, if one of us that are on SL could get some land and build a hangout or some thing on there that people could go to, if someone has there own land they can also put scripts in objects so people can click them and it will take them to the webpage.

Yeah me too..hence why I haven't been on in almost a year.. PLUS the fact that if i logged on, I'd probably have to wait years for all the updates to load.. *sighs*

Fun or work...

I found I mostly enjoyed it when I was working on designs. I tend to like coming up with original things, and work so hard and long at it that I rarely end up actually USING that which I've created.

It can be fun if you get more into RPG aspects of it. Frankly, I don't personally get the attraction of setting up a house you don't "really" live in, or "dancing at a club."

Again, I think that's what makes it a glorified chat room in my eyes.

But my husband rents a spot and has a manor there. It is a little fun picking up free furnishings and rezzing them there and playing "house" for a little bit.

otheerwise, the only thing I do there is work on my outfits & weapons.

One of Jon's friends doesn't do ANYTHING but "work". He sets up trailers (yes, there is a trailer park in Furnation) and sells them/rents them.

If I go back, it'll be to promote my music or finally get into roleplay. I'm bored with it right now so I'm not really doint anything.

hmmm...oufits and weapons sounds pretty cool.....I wonder if you could build a haunted mansion where people pay cash to get hacked up and mangled by hot doms....you know stick em on a rack than skin them alive....that would be wicked!

You can set-up a building to do anything you please - except, now, gambling.

There are a couple clubs I like to hang out in for atmosphere. One of them has a back room that is loaded with vampire animations. There are entire sims devoted to vampires, or bondage, etc.

(Not going to get into it here, but if you're familiar with the "Gor" novels that are basically about a culture devoted to masters & slaves, there is a HUGE Gorean presence on SL - including entire sims. Frankly, I don't get the attraction of being submissive to someone in a sim, and would much rather kick some ass in a swordfight than kneel on a pillow all fucking night.)

There are lots of dungeons around and about. Basically, there are things like racks, cages, twisted machines, all sorts of devices set up with "poseballs". You click on the poseball and it "animates" your avatar.

So long as an animation has been created, you can do all sorts of things.

Of course, not all of it is sex. :)

If an animation doesn't exist, you can pay people to create them for you. Or if you learn how to use Poser, you can create your own.

Also, on the sex tip, you can buy these invisible modifications you "wear" on your body. They make your body parts interactive. For instance, I have a pair of nipples with rings that can be clicked on and twisted, yanked, pulled, etc. You respond with a sound like "oooh". Also, a company called Xcite makes similar attachments for the tits, ass and pussy - get into a sex animation and your partner can click on a body part and choose an action. It makes your avatar respond, and eventually orgasm. You set the amount of time/arousal rate, etc.

Some of the devices are "Xcite interactive/compatible" and your avatar will respond to the poseball itself.

Heh. Like Barbie & Ken, the only anatomy that comes correct on an av is the breasts. You have to purchase a vagina or penis if you want one.

It can be really, really complex. And a hell of a turn on. It's sorta like interactive porn. Especially fun if you have a PC, and your partner is on a laptop in another room. We haven't actually done that, because as I said, Jon's main character is an otter, and I don't go there. :yucky: Was working on a human version of him, but SL has been VERRY low on my prioritization list over the past few months.

That does sound interesting, but it sounds like I'd need a little cash in order to really get things interesting.

Though I could start out as a SL whore and work my way up, I suppose. Or just see if I can convince guys that I'm hot and deserve their money.

Tip:

Luck chairs. You can get everything from avatars, skins, hair, clothing, houses, furniture, animatioins, jewelery. It's all free.

There are places that give away freebies like yard sales or junk yards, but the giveaways are pretty basic.

I can give tips on lucky chairs if asked.

(Please forgive the many typos I"m making these days. My keyboard got something "mysteriously" dumped in it and the first cleaning didn't un-stick a lot of the keys)

"Lucky Chairs" actually.

Sign up for a free SL account. Then drop me an IM - Critter Wildcat. I don't have to be online for you to IM me.

I'll respond with a linky to the Lucky Chair Station. You go there, and you'll see this:

lcstation2.jpg

See the box of alphabet letters under the cat? You click on the letter corresponding to your SL first name - in my case, it'd be C for Critter.

The blue menu you see on the upper right comes up. Those are the current prizes being offered by lucky chairs. You click on the one you want to go after.

It brings the link up in your chat history (bottom left, not pictured). Click on it, and it brings you somewhere in the vicinity of the chair.

You click on the chair and sit. As shown below.

lc.jpg

Voila - you win a prize. In this case, a dress package.

You can get REALLY great items this way. People use them to advertise their designs, so some put some of their best things on the chairs. Much better stuff than you'll get from junkyards & free boxes.

I -knew- you wanted the dong!

^That guy... totally craves the cock.

NOt like that silly....I want to buy one to add to my porn star-pimp-dungeon master character of doom, so I can torcher chickies on the rack with it...so essentially I would have a SL character that overcompensates totally.
