Your not that old.... *checks* oh sorry... I guess you are

*sticks tongue out at Phee* Watch it... I'm only a year behind Msterbeau! LOL

As for the Most Active cities. I'm actually in Warren, but I usually put Metro Detroit. Just easier, especially for those not from Michigan that I encounter online.

Westland was no 3-4 (always behind Detroit/Troy/Ann Arbor) for a long time, but in recent months the data has changed a lot. Mostly (i hope) due to the 1. Street Team ("real life" promotion) , 2. People promoting DGN on their personal websites and 3. My L33t Search Engine Optimizations skills.

None of this data in terms of geography is based on what you put in your DGN profile. This is based on Google analytics data which is much more reliable in terms of best-guess location of IP address.

One thing about these stats though is they strike balance between "individual visitors" (which is heavily weighted) and "page views" which is not so heavily weighted. So maybe there are 5 uber-active people in say Westland (me for instance being one) the fact that i race all over the board constantly does have some impact on the stats, but not as much impact as multiple people from the same city just showing up for a few page views.

Then, there's the magic trick of trying to discern "real" users from bots and shit. Factor in actual posts but the total # not being so important, just the fact that a given IP address actually did post, and not just lurk and it gets real confusing. There's also several other lesser factors buried in this data.

One key thing is that there ARE a TON of lurkers that dont actually post. Every so often i meet someone that seems to have a pretty good understanding of what we talk about on DGN but doesn't even have a DGN account. The "lurker factor" is what skews this data away from what is expected more than any other single thing i think.

I think this is a very good indication of current geographic activity though. Spent a lot of time (way to much) figuring out how to calculate this BS. heh. Just thought people might find it interesting.

I'll probably re-do it in a month or two. By that time hopefully our collective DGN pimping skills (read: just do it) will have improved greatly and we will have a more accurate picture of DGN Geography.
