So this guy I am spending allot of time with right now, I have known for years.....comes back into town. I suggest we go to CC and he freaks. He thinks its not just haunted but that there are evil (?) forces there......lol.

I always knew he hated my goth/metal side and likes my hippie/soft side. (yes I am a bit of a contradiciton)

And now he is saying he thinks goth is a influence of something evil and that most of us are fucked up.....not that he is perfect......

Oh and he doesn't like that I wear all black but I think maybe he does.......he seems drawn to me because I am what he considers dangerous and dark and mysterious.....so I am not changing.....not that I would change for anyone.......anyway.......but......

He hates my music. I hate his. We sit in silence usually.

OH and the other day some hairy hippie called me a crazy goth bitch.....he was half joking........but I took it as a total compliment.....lol but thats me.

Then, me and thing 2 (if you know my kids you know they look like halloween every day of the yr) were walking out of the store and some lady actually elbows her kid, points at us.....and trys to get her kid to laugh at us with her.....nice lady, teach your kids some manners....good parenting.

I figure, its my calling. To freak people out and what not. Whatever. Love me or hate me but if you really get to know me you will love me as only my closest do.....

So that it in a nut shell. Oh yah, last night someone made fun of my heathen plate too. I love freaking people out.

Who was it, Chris Rock-? said "whoever you hate on is gonna end up in your family"... haha that lady's kid will prolly come home wearing black nail polish & black fishnet armlets next week... serve her right!

I'm just glad people are generally more accepting of (or at least used to) fringe looks these days. You wanna talk about insults, back in the '80s when I was a little mohawk-wearing punkette, most of us were regularly insulted, threatened and even assaulted (usually by frat boy/jock types) just for having spiked or different color hair. Pretty much anywhere we went, people either looked like they wanted to start throwing garbage at us, or decided we must be rock stars and insisted we give them autographs (absolutely true, happened more than once). Ah, the good ol' days...

Goths Are Evil:

I'm not quite sure were the "goths are bad people" thing comes from. Long before the whole Colombine thing this was a stereotype.

I guess the "witch/vampire" look engenders certain opinions. Good job on not judging a book by its cover world! Gratz! hehe. I mildly though, to play the devils advocate here can understand some of the close mindedness. People just don't have a clue, and generally assume that a "uniform" is expressing a certain political/lifestyle opinion even when its not intended as such.

Goth Clothing Taste/Insults (seperate subject split off from this one):

It's simple and basic sheeple instincts.

If something is different than you, you cannot understand why it's different for you have no concept of individuality or open mindedness..

you fear what you do not understand

you hate what you fear

you attack what you hate on some deep seated instinctual delusion of survival.

but since you're "civilized" and at least smart enough (well in some cases) to know you'll get in trouble for physical assault..

you instead point and laugh..

NOTE: when I say "you" i'm using that word in a general term to describe a typical sheeple. It does not neccesarily apply to anyone in specific, however... If the shoe fits....

Well i don't necessarily "understand" say... Croatian military uniforms , but if i saw someone wearing one i wouldn't assume they were evil or make any assumptions about them. (Except maybe I'd probably assume they were in the military.. which might not be the case.)

There has to be a basis for the stereotypes they don't just pop into existence from the aether. Not that i agree with a given stereotype i just wonder where this "goths are bad people" one comes from. It has to come from something specific, not just "well i don't know you so you must be bad."

At least i don't think that's where it comes from, as always i could be wrong.

It does seem like in more recent times the population in general is less Xenophobic , which is an encouraging sign.

well you wouldn't think that military uniform is bad even though you don't understand it is because you're not one of the sheeple that can't think.

It's because we're in the "dark side" is why the sheeple associate that of goth being bad/evil/whatever. and yes, there are plenty of sheeple in the goth community as well who are quick to label all preps as exactly the same and ect ect ect..

All throughout human history, most civilizations have always viewed dark and spooky as evil and associated with such, so as wrong as it is that's why people point and laugh. See Troy, with the example you gave, it doesn't sit into the human psyche and associate itself with anything in our minds, but when people see black they associate it with death and evil, and gives most normal people the willies and since they're scared and uncomfortable, they laugh.

NOW what I've always wondered is what exactly makes people like us like it and why it makes us feel good. Hmmm *ponders*

Thats kind of more what i was thinking about, without ever really thinking about it prior to this topic. That kind of resoning is what i was looking for. =)

This one here is easy. We are freaks!

does evil grow out of madness...or does madness grow out of evil

anywho

i do think that place is evil like

i dunno not the club itself.. but i get depressive vibes from the building

To me it has this feeling of depression and i totally think somethings definitly up with it but lets not start a ghost story thread about this here....

and to continue on to the subject of us...

as with anyone there are goodens and badens

were just a fan of the darker side of the force becouse were attracted to it

it appeals to us as a type of shelter we find comfort in being ourselves in which it is the dark side :starwars:

but the thing is we are ourselves and none of us should change it

we are the ying and yang

and you know what i dont give two damns about anyones particular style as long as your being true to yourself and you being unique .... then youve got nothing to bitch at about anyone and take everything in good and the bad and be happy aboutit

it's a cultural thing. In China.. I think it's China anyway.. white is the Evil color. In the Yin/Yang.. the Black is Good and the White is Evil.

True dat... altho describing yin/yang as "good/evil" is a HUGE oversimplification and reflects dichotomist Western thinking... but yeah, in Asian cultures white is the color of death and misfortune. The concept of black as representing evil/death/darkness is only universal in Western cultures.

If you think about it, a subculture devoted to exploring "darkness and death" is a natural outgrowth of a society that makes such a strong attempt to negate the reality of death and goes to such lengths to separate people from death. Maybe death is such a taboo subject in western society because we have control over so many aspects of the natural world... but we have not defeated death... so most of us view death as something horrific and unnatural, rather than an integral part of the cycle of life. And anyone who has overcome this aversion, or openly trying to come to terms with it, is viewed with suspicion.

...I should clarify, I'm not saying that other cultures have no fear of death but they do tend to view it as an inevitable and natural part of life, while we tend to see it as something that just shouldn't happen... even if someone's quality of life is negligible death is seen as a terrible enemy that must be fended off at all costs.

Evil does exist, but not like people think... and goth is not evil, just different. Of course to some being different is evil, so no matter what you do you can't please everyone.

I grew up with long hair, beard, leather jacket, jeans...etc. and "normal" people thought I was evil, they still do.... old people still think I am the devil (and he doesnt exist either) and will cross the street to avoid walking by me.

This society was based on diversity but doesnt tolerate it anymore, and people who think outside the norm are considered bad, unpatriotic, all that horseshit. The government has been very successful in making their sheep believe that those who do not agree with what they say is "right" are evil, naughty, bad people.

Hitler did the same thing, he demonized the jew... and those who didnt agree were accused of being unpatriotic. All the "patriotic" german people who went along with the government thought they were doing Gods work.... when actually they were the ones who were doing evil by refusing to buck the system, and do what they knew in their hearts was right.

In my world, those who stupidly obey the demands of our insane society are evil....

I love goth people....

I can understand where jay is coming from cuz like when u go out to a goth club everyones dressed in black like they're going to a pagan ritualistic killing or something. So u gotta look at stuff from his perspective. When we talked on the phone though it seemed like he likes you. Can't be too picky remember we're old now it aint like 8yrs ago.

Well, if goths and other 'alternative lifestyles are so accepting, how come the last time I went to CC and wore a peach chiffon evening dress, people looked at me funny?

And don't you try to tell me that I shouldn't have been wearing peach chiffon in the first place. I assure you I looked smashing...and more than a little like Peaches N Cream barbie.

LOL I hear that. I remember in the 80's I ran around with a biker gang for awhile.....yup we had our chapter patches sewn on and everything......like an ad just asking for trouble.....

We had cowboys (it was in AZ) try to run us over......I got shot at a couple times just for being some place......lets see, one of my friends WAS shot just for being someplace.....he had brain surgery......

But this is different. I mean, I am no longer sporting patches that say what gang I belong to.......I just look like the dark witch that I am. Hell, I think gang members get more slack than goths these days.....or maybe they are just more feared.
