I Want This Dress

Recommended Posts

It's for sale on eBay for $49 start bid. High shipping 'cause it's from China:

Thing is, though, A woman in the next city over is selling the exact same dress at a yard sale - in my size. Actually, bigger than my size, so it's got room for fitting. But she's charging $200. (I actually was surprised to find it - I was looking gowns up on eBay to see what kind of prices gowns go for, and there it was.)

I wonder if I show her the eBay ad if she'd give it to me for the eBay price...

Yeah, definitely would look hot on you.

Go with the one that lady over in the next town is sellin,

with all the trouble with chinese imports these days,

you'd be better off with that next-town-over lady's dress,

even if you have to pay extra for it,

its better to be safe then sorry.

You wouldn't want to buy the chinese one for the lower price and then wind up havin it the dress disinigrate in the washing machine ya know.

All the trouble with lead paint in toys from china..

There may not be a corralation,

but I don't think it'd be too far fetched to think of it that way.

Yeah, but I ain't got $200 right now. Won't for the next month actually.

I think I'll go see her tomorrow. Give her my phone number and maybe a printout of the eBay ad and tell her if she doesn't get her $200, would she sell it to me for like $80 or something.

God, will I ever have an occasion to wear such a thing, though?

I'm always bummed because I go to thrift stores and yard sales a LOT. And I see formal gowns for sale all the time. But never before the other day did I see any in plus sizes. And damn if it's not my favorite color combination, too - I wear black & red so much I'm becoming a tedious cliche'. :D

She also had this gorgeous, poufy number in layers and layers of tulle and beads. But it was a shade of light blue that I just wouldn't wear, and she wanted $300 for it. It was nice to see gowns in my size finally, however.

well if ya go to her, with cash in hand, she might go for it. It'd be less then what she was askin, but maybe the fact that she could make the sale " right now" might sway things your way, I hope it works out.

LOL!

My husband, who is ordinarily supportive of my fashion wants - kinda is nixing this one. Oh, he'd let me go get it if I really wanted to, he's not a jerk. But he did reiterate that I do NOT have any kind of place to wear a dress like this, and frankly, he's right.

I wouldn't wear it to CC for the simple reason that I wouldn't want the hem dragging in the muck on their floor. And should I have to go to the bathroom... well, I think they're cleaner than in the past. But there still is often water - and god knows what else - on the floor.

No, a dress like this would require the whole get-up - meaning especially shoes, the type of which I NEVER wear. I'd have to get some kind of cute, strappy sandals. Right now, my "dress" shoes consist of several different types of black leather boots with varying levels of platform heels. :D

And then there's the point that I'm not a loner - I have a husband. And a dress like that would probably mean going to an event that would have my husband in a tux. Not that that wouldn't look sweeet - but we're freaking lowbrows, and more likely to go to an outdoor church carnival or state fair than a formal dance.

I was mostly interested at this point because I could go get it from the woman nearby right now, vs. ordering from China later. But I was browsing the company's other gowns on eBay, and OMG - they have the most gorgeous, fairy-tale princess dresses at criminally cheap prices - and very, very few are getting bids. I'm sure it's because of the whole China backlash, and probably because they probably are made by nearly slave labor. And yes, that sort of thing gives me pause. But goddamn it, I can't get a dress that beautiful that cheap from a local shop, you know?

    • I am currently floored.   FedEx did a massive 6 box delivery to the wrong address.  I had an autoship order scheduled to arrive before this past weekend.  Nothing showed up.  I contacted the order site and they had a link for the order...a photo of all my boxes thrown in the snow and up the sidewalk of a residence that was not mine.   You would think that at some point, the driver would have looked at the delivery address after they kept throwing box upon box at this location with no shelter from the elements.  They didn't even knock on the door to inform the residents that massive 65+ pound boxes were left all over their walkway.  Nope.  Just dumped them, took a photo as they were walking away and left.   I wonder what the person who found all of those misdelivered boxes must have been thinking when they saw them.  Maybe they kept everything to use, distribute or sell.  No idea.  No claim was filed on that end as of yet.   Fortunately for me, one of the sites that I ordered from, replaced everything at no extra cost.   Unfortunately, now I'm concerned for the other items yet to be delivered.   Needless to say, I'll be watching my notifications like a hawk.
