Guitar Hero

I wanted to post this in games, because it'll probably reach more of its target area there, but technically it's artwork, so here it is.

I'm a giant dork, but it turns out my boyfriend is an even BIGGER dork. He asked me to customize his Guitar Hero axe with a House on the Rock theme.

Here's a look at what I've done.

For the record, that's a whale, not a shark.

I'm pleased with it. As any fans of the game may know, it started out tomato red. I took the whole damn thing apart, took pictures as I did it, labeled all the parts in little baggies, etc etc. I gave it a matte base coat in aerosol acrylic, then painted on one to give it a brushstrokey look, then painted in the infinity room and the trees, base coated the rest with a blue/brown/violet varnish mix, then painted on the mannequin angels, the words, and the whale before sealing everything with an mineral spirit aerosol and letting it sit for a couple of weeks. I used oil paints for all the coloring, so it would be scratch resistant. I considered using enamels, but I figured I ought to use what I know and love.
