Yaaaaay!

Recommended Posts

Finally... after spending full school year trying to make ends meet by tutoring, subbing, test scoring, and praying... watching my mortgage go into default & my credit rating plummet... I'm back at Shabazz Academy, the charter where I began my teaching career back in '01. The principal called me last Tuesday & asked if I was working. I told him I didn't know but would in a couple hours... at that point I'd spent the past week negotiating for a special ed gig at another charter, turned out they'd hired someone else & then spent a week giving me excuses. I'm sure I'm much better off not being there. The blessing in that situation is that they motivated me to move heaven & earth to get enrolled in coursework toward my special ed endorsement... which I managed to do the week classes started at MSU. As it turned out, I actually qualified for displaced worker funding... wish I'd known that 6 months ago. So anyway, after dropping by the other school & officially discovering I'd been shafted by them, I went on over to Shabazz and ended up with a general ed class of 25 (so far) 5th graders. The school is way more organized than when I was there... fully staffed, good numbers... and my class rocks, they are really on the ball kids. No major behavior problems which is almost too good to be true.

Sooo glad to be working again. I'm hoping I can get the mortgage co. to renegotiate & let me keep my little house, now that I have contracted employment for this school year. It's going to take a solid year... at least... to get out of debt and start to rebuild my devastated credit... but at least now I can start. I guess the magically appearing St. Jude prayer card worked. Or something. So thank whoever!

Thanks everyone!

I still might move to Nevada, but not for another year or two. The package Clark County is offering is damn tempting... I would start at about $10k per year more than I get here... that's straight salary, not even counting bennies. Their special ed cert program kicks ass too... I believe special ed is my true calling, but no one here wants to pay me to take the coursework I need. So we'll see. Also thinking about North Carolina or Florida, both are screaming for teachers... neither is as attractive to me as Vegas, but way easier for Tokagemaru jobwise. But, I'm here for the time being!

You do whatever's best for you.

Nothing against T, but I want you to do what makes you the happiest and is the best relocate for you.

If it works out for both of you, great.

Uprooting's a big thing, though.

Make sure its the best school, and that cost of living doesn't eat away at the increase in pay.

In the meantime WHOOOHOOOO!!!!

I'm so thrilled for you.

Here's why you got the job.

You deserved it.

You're smart.

You work your ass off

And you're a fighter

You didnt give up after all the earlier disappointments

Look at all the thingsyou've accomplished and overcome before this point

And most importantly, you love these kids and truly want to better them.

Here's to a great first year back at Shabazz! :happydance:cheers:
