This Is Odd

So I have this friend that does something that I find odd. It's not that big of a deal but - at times it really mangled up plans until I figured it out.

she relates to time frames differently and by that I mean - when she says something like she's taking this week off from work what she really means is the week following the current week in which we are getting through.

Does that make sense to anyone?

Example : When I say this weekend what I mean is the weekend which is closest to the day that I'm saying it on (i.e. a few days from now) when she says the same thing she means two weekends from now.

It drives me nuts.

Is anyone else out there like this or is it just her?

Wow. I've not come across that one. Everyone I know uses "this" and "next" in the same context. This Saturday means this next one coming up, this week means the one we are currently in, etc, like you stated.

That would definitely drive me nuts.

yea ive had people do that to me. at first i was confused, then when i realized they were saying it kinda weird i just never let the person use 'this or that or next' and made them use specific dates whenever relating anything to me. this causes one of two things... they either use the dates and the confusion is gone or they get annoyed you keep asking for specific dates and begin to use 'this and next' appropriately....

I knew it wasn't me - I thought to myself "this is how I've always known everyone to relate about days/weeks and so on".

I told her about it and she swears up and down that she doesn't confuse anyone by doing it. Well, I think I'll be asking her to give specific dates and what not so that way I will know what she means.
