Pets You Own

Recommended Posts

I don't like to start threads unless there is a wide area of discussion, so I am going to ask this in here.

Oh, right. I have two dogs, Rufus, a Shar Pei Basset hound mix, and Swiffer, a black sort of spitz mutt kind of thing. Gypsy, my cat, had babies today! Huh... I should tell my girlfriend about that. I also have a parakeet, Pita bread.

Any ways, chickens. The care and feeding of chickens, as pets, and perhaps egg suppliers. Does anyone here know anything about this?

MyPetChicken.com

Seems like a cool site, though you'll want to check Ypsi ordinances to make sure you can have them as pets, they might fall under the exotic animal law. I know Ann Arbor is trying to ban having them as pets and Ypsi might too due to the close proximity. Good luck!

I don't have any pics and even if I did no means to get them on the computer, but at my dad's house I have a fat orange cat named Garfield, and an African ball python named Shiva.

Here at Dani's we have a pitt bull named Roxy a little black dog (not sure of the breed), a Grey cat named Smoke, an orange kitten named noob (she followed us home from the store she was just 2 cute to leave on the streets), and Dani's mom has an African Gray named Sammy and a Lilac Amazon named Casper.

Home: kitties Chango, Lynx & Tomoe; corn snake Ophelia (currently on a romantic getaway to Tokagemaru's apartment- possibility of baby corn snakes for sale soon!); nameless long-tailed grass lizard.

Classroom: Zen the bearded dragon, Angel the rabbit, Sasuke the leopard gecko, Lucky the rat and his as-yet unnamed companion.

The last two are replacements for Stewie the stinky boring hamster, who unfortunately succumbed to a mysterious hamster bane over spring break. Lucky was actually supposed to be snake chow.. Ophelia hasn't eaten in several weeks so we figured live food might pique her appetite. Tossed the rat in with her before leaving for Detroit last Tuesday... came back Friday and he'd made a cozy little nest in a corner of the tank and was coexisting uneasily with Ophelia, who showed no interest in him whatsoever. At that point we figured Ophelia was craving male companionship rather than food. Tokagemaru wanted Lucky for monitor food, but I figured he'd endured enough trauma for one ratty lifetime... and since I had an extra cage with Stinky Stewie gone, what the hell.

And... all I know about chickens... we hooked up w/this couple who had 6 half grown chickens in a box in their kitchen (kid's 4H project), and the wretched things never once shut up the ENTIRE night. I thought chickens slept at night but apparently not these. Given time I guess it would be like white noise... but one night isn't that time.

She ahh has personality. Otherwise known as she attacks people when she feels like it (quite often) and there is a no-kill shelter here but if she bites someone they will still put her down.

I had to have a cat put down because she started attacking us with no warning. It got to the point where we were afraid to be in the same room with her. When she attacked the only way to make her stop was to throw a blanket over her... it was really terrifying and I had scars for months afterward. We found out later she was likely suffering some kind of post-partum hormonal imbalance... but at the time, we had no idea what was going on and prolly couldn't have afforded any kind of treatment anyway.
