The reviews of this thing are basically "It doesn't get an better than this." from virtually every news source possible.

Ken burns is really to be commended. This guy is no joke. Over a decade ago , single handedly re-invigorated the educational programing world with "The Civil War" , credited by many as the best documentary ever made. It taught a generation of MTVers that there is something else out there.

"The War" literally 6 years is expected to be even better. The definitive document on the most cataclysmic event in recorded history.

There are no "experts" or "historians" in this film. All the narration is done by actual veterans or family that were alive at the time and give first hand accounts. It is told from 'the ground up'.

The War has been in the works for a long, long time. No its not about Iraq. Its about THE war. That's WWII. Arguably the most important subject in recorded human history, done by the most respected documentary filmmaker in history. Made at a time that will not be repeatable. If they waited 5 or 10 more years, it would be impossible.

This is big. This is important. I'd urge you to take some time and read through this, have a look at some of the video clips and insane amount of work that's gone into this project:

I know many won't look into it and i can understand. But, this really is a big deal and the subject is important.

Hmmm I used to be big on WWII, my grandpa was in it and to me just how badly everything got out of control is interesting. I'll have to try and check it out sometime. Or we can all just be like "PARTY AT TROY'S HOUSE!" and watch it there

This was posted before The War became the huge -its-everywhere-media-event- up until recently it was a constant topic on talk shows / news and various NPR-ish type sources.

Good stuff. Not nearly as "educational" as most of kens other works, and very heavy on the "human story" side , which has always been one of his hallmarks, but this one took it to an extreme level. Almost a chick-flick war documentary if there is such a thing.

That isn't to knock it, its just an observation (and an often cited observation since it came out) They spent so much time working on that thing its crazy. Defiantly should be on everyone's to-be-seen list. If you don't have the attention span to watch something about a "real" subject, force yourself anyway. This is the type of stuff you need to learn to like, even if your not naturally inclined to do so. (which many of us MTV generation people are not)
