Assemblage 23

Tom Shear's long-term project has seen him rise from humble beginnings as an industrial fanatic to being one of the major players working in the darksynth genre today. Over the course of six full-lengths and just as many singles, Assemblage 23 has taken the dancefloors globally, by storm. Too many hit songs to mention (including the latest "Binary", which debuted at #21 on the Billboard US SINGLES chart), Assemblage 23's tracks are usually a dark but achingly beautiful electronic trip through regret, alienation and loss. Punchy and danceable, layered and complex with heartfelt lyrics, melodic synth sections, catchy dance beats, A23 is a beautifully twisted version of synthpop that listeners will find instantly appealling. While industrial is often seen as cold, agressive and mechanical in nature, Assemblage 23 proove that a human heart beats beneath the machines.

Assemblage 23 will be putting out a special limited edition (1000) CD of new recordings of some of the band's earliest works in conjunction with their upcoming US tour. The CD will ONLY be available on the US tour. The final track listing is as follows:

Live Intro 96

Mortuary

Anger

Chemical Restraint

Straightjacket

Ambush

Soma

The Angels Died

Sometimes I Wish I Was Dead

Underneath the Ice

My Burden

The Fissure King

Mark Nicholas

Mark Nicholas is a Detroit-based electronic musician, once well-known in the underground synthpop community as the man behind the band Cosmicity. Cosmicity was active from 1994-2003. Mark has shed the confines of pristine, 80’s-influenced synthpop for a modern hybrid electronic sound – a sound he calls Dirty Electronic. Flirting with electro, house, hip hop, synthpop and industrial Nicholas' new sound offers something diverse, fresh and different... or as he likes to explain it "Depeche Mode bitch-slaps Trent Reznor right after he finishes screwing Allison Goldfrapp on soiled Prodigy-themed bedsheets. Oh, and still a little like Cosmicity too."

  • 2 weeks later...

I work until 9...so I would probably miss him if I tried to leave from work...unless someone can give me a time at which A23 will start...then im prolly gonna miss it :(:(

Doors are at 8, I would assume A23 would play around 10-11. If you want, I could post on here later tonight what time they go on, I won't know till this evening.

I had a good time, i agree with the sound problems both candy and odims mentioned. I expected way more people though, I feel bad, bet they lost money or onlt broke even on that show.

I have seen them twice before... Both times I just wish they had more then the standard synthpop set up (singer,k-board,small drumpads) and I heard they did that again... Kinda glad I didn't go now... I love the music honestly... but what's the point if the sound is bad and there is not much to see?

There were some sound issues during a few songs, which was suprising as we've never had a problem with Small's before, and it is a popular concert venue, and a way better alternative to always booking shows at the Labyrinth. The problem was also dealt with quickly and the show continued, being the best performance from Tom Shear I've ever seen, looked like both the band and the crowd had a great time. One sound issue does not mean Small's is not a great venue and I hope to see everyone out for future shows, including Thrill Kill Kult coming in December.
