I don't know about anyone else but....I sleep a lot better a night knowing we get to pay for their mistakes.

It just brightens my day knowing if our government fucks up - we get the bill.

*if you can't detect me total sarcasm and anger in those remarks well, now you know.*

Well, lesson learned for some... Vote next time and if you voted for last time... maybe pay attention to what the canidates say... Granholm said she was going to raise state income tax and add a service tax during the election. She shut down the government to force the State Congress to do her bidding... Both house and senate opposed this... one controlled by Democrats and one controlled by Republicans. Bi-partisen opposition to both tax increases...

but hey.. it's still not Granholm's fault... she's perfect... some people will most likely still vote for her in the next election... I mean... some parts of the State are still doing well econimically... her work is not done yet.

The reason you don't know what all the services are is because they weren't telling.

Here's an excerpt from the Freep:

The tax on services applies to numerous businesses: from consulting for large businesses, to landscaping, janitors and private guards, to such small-niche enterprises as fitness trainers, escorts, house sitters and even fortune tellers.

Repealing the new tax law would be difficult, but not impossible.

A petition drive that collected 304,100 valid signatures — a steep requirement — would force the Legislature to either repeal the law or put the question before voters

on a statewide ballot as early as November 2008.

The fact that the service tax applies to escorts makes me laugh so hard.

Other than that, I think this is a terrible idea.

I did vote.

I do pay attention.

And I'm not praising the Governor.

I am pissed at both sides because both sides do the same god damn thing every year.

And that is they lie to the public. They figure why not put the burden of their fuck ups onto our already close to breaking backs? It makes sense and let me tell you why.

We the people have no real say (no matter who we vote for) and they will continue to break our backs until the people of this nation wake up - stand up for our rights - and take back our country.

I just wish more people could put aside their drinking and partying and clubbing and spend more of their free time making this nation better again. For everyone's benefit.

For the benefit of our nations children who have a far worse future waiting for them than we can possibly imagine.

Look, it's pay for play. If we want world-class Universities like U-M, we are going to have to pay for them. Republicans repealed the Single Business tax, leaving a gaping hole of TWO BILLION DOLLARS in the budget.

Republicans wanted to close that gap solely by cuts. That was complete bullshit. Democrats wanted to close the gap with tax increases. That's bullshit.

Granholm did her best to save money and then tax stuff that probably ought to have been taxed any ways. It's not perfect, but there was no perfect solution. The SBT was killing the sate.

"On August 9, 2006, the initiative petition was approved by an affirmative vote of the majority of the Senate and the House of Representatives, and filed with the Secretary of State."

"The People of the State of Michigan enact"

It was a voter initiative because everytime Congress approved a bill to get rid of the SBT, Granhom vetoed it. So, a voter initiative happened. They got the signitures, the count was certified... and according to the Constitution... congress approved it....(both houses, one controlled by Dems and one by Republicans) and Granholm had no power to Veto it because it came from the people.

I wish we had deposit toilets. You pay $1 to use it and if it's clean when you leave and you flushed, you get your $1 back. Otherwise the deposit money will go to help pay the wages of the unfortunate person who has to clean up after your sorry ass.

When I was a kid, there were still pay toilets at the Sears at Dix & Southfield in Lincoln Park. And at the Hudson's in Southland, which is now Macy's.

If you really had to pee and didn't have a dime, you were screwed. I think I can remember at least once seeing a teenager squeezing under the door.

If pistol range fees are on the list then I may have to get some picture targets.

I know psychic services are on the list (which they had to specify fortune telling for the idiots and then further break that down into astrology, palmistry, tarot, and phrenology for the complete morons) but I'm trying to find out if magician, juggler, stunt performer, or any of the other entertainment things I do is on the list. Probably.

well that's pretty much what it is, it is fully self-cleaning and I think it's like .50 and the money is supposed to go back into the city or something. There's talk of adding small shower w/ a similar concept for the homeless, a few dollars for a 15 min. hot shower.

Run Down State? This is the State with a metropolitan area of five million people. Detroit is falling apart because city taxation cannot cover the use of city services. The suburbs are vampires sucking the lifeblood out of the city center.

If the people of Farmington Hills actually paid into the entire metropolis and not just their little enclave, life would be better for the entire state.

Not Just Farmington Hills, mind you. I'm just saying that the affluent suburbs could not be affluent if it weren't for the city center. White flight is pretty much over. Anyone who moves farther away is in the Grand Rapids/Battle Creek metroplex.

It's time to pay the piper.

Half of the state lives in the Detroit area. It stands to reason that most of the state money should go into the Detroit area. However, It's simply insane that Novi residents can live in Novi thanks to Detroit, but pay not a single red cent DIRECTLY to Detroit.
