My Friend Wants To Go As A Neko For Halloween...

Recommended Posts

Well, since I discovered them originally on Second Life...

They're part cat/part human beings. On Second Life, the "legend" of the Neko involves some group of humans who pissed off some God or something, and he turned them into Cats. I don't remember all the details I read, but the legend further says that he ended up forgiving them or something and some of them turned back into humans, but some of them only went part way into half cat/half human, and ended up deciding it was a blessing, not a curse.

I've never really interacted with any, so I don't know how many take the whole "legend" seriously, or if most of them just want to be "humans with ears and tails." They kinda annoy me, because my character is a variation on a cat/human shape-shifter, and I put a lot of work into blending the human/cat characteristics into something unique. The Nekos walk around with both human ears on the sides of their heads and cat ears on top of their heads. And I never see them acting like cats. Just like humans with cat ears & tails.

And I was really pissed off the day I was entered in a "best cat" contest at a club, in my full-on furry cat avatar - and I lost - to a neko. WTFE.

Discrimination is alive and well in Second Life. :D LOL - Yes, I do find the whole thing silly and ridiculous.

In any case, Hot Topic has some black cat ears right now that are on individual hair clips that you can anchor anywhere you want on your head. They're not very big, however.

I have a pair of cat ears I bought at Hot Topic years ago that I wear to CC once in a while. They were on a full headband, but I took them off the headband and sewed clips into them. Perhaps check eBay.

Also, if she's going to be anything like the Nekos of Second Life, she's going to need to do some work to ensure there's some difference between a "neko" costume and... well... a human with clip-on ears and a pinned-on tail.

What kind of hair does she have? When I had my punk mullet in high school (see the "high school memories" thread in the pictures forum), the play Cats was massively popular. I got pictures of the cast and copied their wigs by super-ratting my own hair, then taking a pinchful of hair at strategic points on my head, shaping it into ears and spraying it with super-hold hair spray. Then I'd spray spray-on black hair color in a stripey pattern. If she has a shorter 'do, or any kind of shag haircut, she could do the same.

So what you're trying to say is you want to be a furry for halloween?

This is a "friend" of Jeremy's who's looking for the ears.

And nekos are not to be confused with furries.

This is an anime neko:

This is a typical Second Life Neko:

And this is a furry (also happens to be my own full-cat furry avatar, though I seldom use it anymore):

This is the new feral cat avatar I purchased before I started losing interest in SL, but I'd been waiting for a good less-anthropomorphic/cartoony cat and it just came out:

This is my SL avatar in "caught in the middle of shifting from human to full-cat" (damn, my eyebrows are missing):

My pic links were messed up. Fixed now.

I dig things furry. But I don't like the negative media attention given to the (from what I hear) small percentage who are into it for sexual fetish/perversion/whatever you wanna call it.

It's cool to be a cat character, just as any actress who has played Catwoman probably dug the chance to purr and meow around. But I don't want to put on a fursuit and fuck somebody. NO thanks. Drive through.

'Neko' is actually just Japanese for 'cat'.

It technically has nothing to do with 'cat-girls'.

Sorry, just a pet peeve.

I discovered that when I initially tried to figure out WTF the SL Nekos were all about.

There's a longer word the SL Nekos use for themselves. Neko-kin or something like that.

Oh, and there are male nekos, too. ;)

My daughter....Asphyxian Doll, can make a pair for you.... I don't know if she will, but I will ask her what she would charge.

That would be awesome! Please keep me updated, I'll PM you my number.

I don't mean to be anal retentive about it (okay, kinda I do), it's just that when you spend five years studying a language, stuff like that tends to stick in your craw.

Anime to Skateboards in Southgate

I just remembered. Places that sell a lot of anime stuff usually have all sorts of cosplay things. I think I saw a girl once at one of these stores with a Neko wig - the hair and ears altogether.

I've never been inside Anime to Skateboards. But their phone number is listed. Worth a try.

This website has two different color Neko ear headbands, a steal at $5.00 a set.

Sally Beauty Supply has REALLY good clips designed for making clip-in hair extensions. I suggest getting a pair like this, and if possible, sewing them onto the Sally clips. They'll stay better in a ratted hairdo, at least something with some body/layers than in fully straight hair.
