Anyone Want To Teach Me How To Do Hair Extensions?

Recommended Posts

Yeah, I'm going on about my "Fucking hair" again!!!! :D

I'm pretty sure it's time for me to go through with getting extensions. But I've done the research, and I had NO CLUE that the average cornrow/sew weave only lasts 2 months. EEP! And at about $125 plus hair, that sure as heck ain't in my budget.

So Jon and I have talked. And what I'd like to do is learn how to do them myself - and then turn around and teach Jon so he can do it for me. Too freaking hard for me to do it to the back of my own head, I imagine. So he's very game to help me out with this.

Now, alternatively, if anyone on the board does this and wants to earn a few extra bucks every couple months, please let me know what you'd charge me. I'd want probably 3 rows of them, depending on whether or not my sparse, fine hair is enough to provide for that (the hairstylist I consulted about this last week thought it would be o.k.)

I haven't made up my mind if I'm going to go with a natural shade of blonde to match mine. Or if I'm going to go through with what I've always wanted to do - dye my natural hair permanent black & Special Effects/Punky Color red, and have black & red extensions put in. If you're interested in doing the color job, let me know what you'd charge. The stylist I consulted with said she'd charge about $45, plus possibly $35 if I went with the duo-color job (one option she and I discussed was her doing the permanent black, and leaving the pieces I want to be red alone so I can do the red myself with a semi-permanent color at home).

I don't know if this is an option for you, but it's an idea. My friend Jean took her step daughter to a student center in flint and had extension done. It was pretty cheap $20.00 and I was really impressed with the quality. They do all different types of extensions, but the ones she had done were these tiny, tiny, tiny.. lol and I mean tiny little clip in pieces. They had to use a special tool to clip them in as the clips are about the size of a small grain of rice. And a bonus is they come in many different colors {she got hot pink} and they last for over a month.

So you could probably call around your area and see if there are any good cosmetology schools and see what type of extensions they do and how much they charge!

If you mean microbeads, they stay in for a decent amount of time. Sierra had a few lime green ones in her hair, and they lasted a couple of months.

I wouldn't mind some extensions myself. Maybe next year...
