jadnifer
Saturday evening I found a calico kitten outside and it was SO cold and I was afraid that it would freeze over night so I brought it in the house. I left her in the bathroom because my kitty cat Misty wasnt too happy about it. I dont know if she got lost and belongs to someone but she is very skinny and ate like she had never eaten before. Im going to make some flyers to see if anyone lost her but if I dont get any calls...Im going to keep her because I think it would be good for Misty to have a playmate and they get along well. Anyone have any tips for taking care of a stray?
Destroit
If she's a kitten you really don't need a whole lot of tips, especially since she is a girl cat. One thing you WILL want to do before exposing her to your cat though is to have her vet checked, fleas, worms, mites, FIV (which is basically cat HIV, especially if your cat is an indoor cat), etc, but other than that you should be fine. Older strays can be difficult because they can have behavioral problems (not quite friendly at first, but usually they will warm up within a year or two), but the most stubborn thing that you will come across with strays is spraying problems, especially boy cats. Gitzie wasn't even a stray, but since she was owned by an asshole cokehead alcoholic (i.e. my ex) and his friends were dumbasses and treated her horribly she was VERY reclusive toward people. It took her about two-three years to just stop RUNNING from everyone, including me. I mean he probably didn't even feed her right...when we took her in she gained seriously like 10 lbs in a month and ended up fully growing, even though she was already two (she was very runt-like, only to find that she was most likely malnourished). Cats take time due to their ego and sass, and they hate the fact that they need you (especially girl cats), but eventually they warm up and realize that you're not so bad to be around after all since your body is warm and it serves as a pillow apparatus.
