F*cking Swimsuit Shopping Hell

Recommended Posts

I need suggestions for where to find a cute 2-piece by Friday. I know, why did I wait so long? Because I've been searching for a cute swimsuit in black or red that will make my waist look smaller. I have an athletic build, so no inward curves at the waist.

Please help me. :fear

You might not believe this, but Wal-Mart has a ton of selections for swimsuits - both regular & plus-sized. Including mix-match pieces so you can pick what kind of top & bottom you want.

I picked up a cute black skirted bottom in a plus-size to go with the black bikini top I already had.

Oh, come on ladies. I refuse to give my weight, but I know I outweight the majority of you complainers, if not all of you.

Get a damned suit on and go have fun! Wear it for YOU, and for the man in your life.

I wear a 2-piece that shows my ample midriff. I wear a gothy micro-mesh see-through top over it, and it pulls the outfit together nicely. Still, I'm fat, and wearing an obvious 2-piece.

If I can do it, you can.

here here, critter.

hell, this isn't exactly swimming country up here, but even i own a bathing suit. it's comprised of a tanky type top with orange and black stripes, and black mini shorts. much better than my old "i'll just wear a giant t'shirt over this really ugly bugs bunny suit" self.

well, there are different types of fat i think. i have seen women MUCH bigger than me, that look better than i do. i am not proportioned and not *smooth* either. my "fat" is from having my babies and being stretched out too from that looks different. (and i had a belly button ring that i kept in for my first pregnancy so my belly button area is weird now :()

i have a friend that has a bigger stomach than me and butt, but they are shaped better than what i have.

ok i think i will stop there before i give tmi. lol.

I hate bathing suit shopping. I hadnt bought one in 4 years. I had to get one for the Vegas trip so I looked and looked and was about to give up. All the ones were made either for bean poles or 60 year old heftys. Plus I always have a hard time finding one that will cover up my chest since I am well endowed.

Needless to say I finally found one and it was only $15!!!! It 's a set..and the top is kinda like a tank top but a shorter one and has the bigger bottoms. Its very flattering! I am not a beanpole and have love handles btw. So I was happy. =)

For some bizarre reason, I'm just not really self conscious. I'm pasty, and will be toting my SPF45 proudly. Being pasty doesn't bother me at all. I just can't find anything that makes me happy. I don't know why this is so hard for me. I'm not even buying it to impress Wayne. I guess it's because I haven't been in a swimsuit since our engagement party 3 years ago. I just don't really know.....

*sigh*

It looks like I'll be doing the swimsuit shopping Friday, which is the day before I leave.

Dyno - I can so relate.

I don't mind being plus-sized. What I mind is being disproportional. I've complained about my big tummy before, so I won't do it again.

Suffice it to say the women in the plus-sized fashion magazines look great at any weight because they have an actual waistline - from a side-view, not just from the front. If you have that waistline, you can pull off a lot of what makes "normal" sized women look good - tucked in shirts, clingy knit dresses, and even a 2-piece swimsuit.

I never said I look good in mine. :wink Just that I got tired of being upset about how I look years ago, and I got tired of letting that bum me out every time I wanted to go swimming, which is as often as I can. So I bit the bullet and decided to go with what makes ME comfortable physically.

I think that's all we women need to do - pick what makes you comfortable.

yeah it helps when you are comfortable with yourself. and sounds like you are critter. :grin

i am not exactly comfortable with how i look, haven't been for awhile. but i also don't ever seem to find anything that i feel very comfortable in.

For me, it's not discomfort in how I look. It's that I just can't find a swimsuit that makes me happy. I'm actually proud of my body. Maybe it's just that I'm turning 40 and want 20 year old bikinis. I don't understand why it's so hard to find one that I like. I'd be happy with just liking the damned suit.

Looks like it's time to invest in Banana Boat, Coppertone, and other sunscreen companies....lord knows I'll be buying up all the SPF 80 in a month. :cool

Actually, I'm not at all. Not at all.

It's just that I love swimming too much to not do so comfortably. And I'm just not comfortable in a 1-piece anymore.

Jon would like to see me go without the cover top, even though it's basically see-through. But I can't go that far, 'cause that leads me back into discomfort.

On another note, ever wish you'd picked up something you saw after you passed on it? I saw this metallic silver job at J.C. Penny's one year, beautiful fabric with a skirt (I love skirted suits on my fat bod). It was expensive, so I passed. Then, spent the rest of the summer trying to track it down again when I decided I HAD to have it.

No such luck. =(

Penney's used to have a fabulous selection of suits. I picked my bikini up there years ago - it's a Delta Burke plus-sized one in black with slightly shiny touches. The bra is built really flattering. But I wear the skirted bottom I got from Wal-Mart with it now instead of the plain brief it came with.

I can't believe the price of suits, though. That silver one I mentioned was YEARS ago, like 6 years or more, and it was $60. To me, that's a horrendous amount to pay for a bathing suit. I suppose they must be MUCH more expensive now, so I'm glad this one is wearing so well (of course, there's little to no freshwater swimming down here, so I've had almost no chance to wear it in the past 3 years)

i have a skirted suit that i wore while pregnant- though it is not maternity- and i love it. it looks like a little dress. i got teased for wearing it after i was not pg anymore and that was the last time i wore it. maybe that is why. ;)

i guess i just feel stupid being the only person i know my age wearing a suit like that (while everyone else wears bikinis and regular suits) but i just don't feel comfortable wearing anything less revealing than that. :erm
