YES! Ha! We always used to have this battle: Which is better, Too Dark Park or Last Rights?

He would always say Last Rights and I'd go with TDP, you have to be in a certain mood and mindset to listen to all of Last Rights. I will say with the exception of Spasmolyctic (I so spelled that wrong because I am not as smart as Ogre) that Last Rights was definately "darker" or more disturbing if you will, the whole album screams out hopelessness. I think that was the point though, that was the point in their career where Ogre was shooting up probably 50 times a day, so I could understand the hopelessness factor  My boyfriend didn't like TDP because it was "too dancy"

Now, actually, for me they're both tied. My copy of TDP broke last year in a tragic accident where it fell out of my car and to its death on the pavement, only to be shattered into two pieces that could never fully function as an album AGAIN. I did some of this: :cry

I put it on my wall, right on Ogre's picture, so that its memory will be carried on for as long as I live. Or for as long as I live in my condo. Whichever happens first.

last rights was definitely puppy's deeper experimentation in noise. inquisition was a pretty big club track, love in vein & killing game got a decent amount of club play too.

plus, there was the whole "left hand shake" track 10 copywrite drama.

Killing game as a club track?

Reeeeally. See, I'm not old enough to have lived through those days...

BUT...I will let you know that Killing Game was actually the first Skinny Puppy track I ever heard. I've been married to Ogre ever since. It's such a hidden relationship that even he doesn't know about it  so don't tell him . It'll be our dirty little secret.

Love in Vein actually makes my top ten list of favorite Skinny Puppy songs.

Oh, and since I posted in this thread without saying

whom my favorite is.

There are 3 that tie it really depends on my mood

Skinny Puppy, of course

The Cure

and Cocteau Twins

those three probably did more to form my musical taste

then anything I've listened to.

I came to the scene fairly late, although I always liked

the darker with more depth sound.

I even really liked the Indigo Girls I'm mildly embarrassed

to say.

I think Phee taught me how to dance to Skinny Puppy,

back in the greatly missed 90's we would be on our knees

in LCC praying to the Gods.

Man I miss that, my arthritis be a hurt'in just thinking about it. :bow

I did????

Whoah

Mother FUCK, my whole life has always been me just missing coolness because I was always too young. Like a day late and a dollar short, you know? For example, I become a corner kid (Royal Oak Fourth and Main) back in 2001 (when I was 16 and finally could drive and get the fuck out of normieville Fraser) and the whole group disbands in 2003. Apparantly it was cool for the last TEN to FIFTEEN years before that, but nooo I had to be too young and jumped on at the last minute. I mean seriously! All of the "cool" stuff that happens to other people always JUST misses me because I was too late from being too young.

I even missed the Too Dark Park tour because I was probably 7 when it happened. I saw it on the GRoTR DVD since it was on the extra disc and the only thing I could think was "FUCK..." I guess that's life...

I guess taken what you said in perspective CC really HAS gone downhill. I just didn't realize it because I didn't know any better. Ignornance is bliss I suppose...? You'd probably have to uhmm service a DJ at CC just to get them to play something like Bauhaus, as an example, and to me that just ain't right!

i started clubbing when i was really young,14. i guess i was lucky because i grew up on long island & i would take the train in to manhattan. back in those days clubs did not id, way before giuliani cleaned up nyc, back when it was all grimey, the way it should be.

i can't comment on CC's past and i wont turn this in to a CC rant thread by posting my opinion of it.

but, i plan on starting a monthly event in march that will focus greatly on the old skool.

  • 2 weeks later...

Depending on what mood I'm in, or place I'm existing inside of...it'd be one of these: Pulp, Joy Division, the Pixies, or the Boards of Canada (sorry to break the rule).

Within the span of certain months I'll be SO sure that one of them is my favorite and am confused as to how I was not so certain of this before :)...not sure, but in a 4-way fight, Cocker and Curtis would pry be the last two standing.

3: The Vandals...

Honorable mentions; Dance Hall Crashers, Tsunami Bomb, The Chubbies, Superbus, Against All Authority

i'm not picking one, i can't. i could pick DOZENS but i will pick TWO ;)

prince and the cure.

i pick them as my top 2 because when they come in concert they are who i LOVE to see. love going to see them in concert above most.

also because i grew up on them and love them to this day.

i think they are both very talented musically as well.

i also have a great time when i go see ministry or clutch. but that really has nothing to do with anything.

the beatles are also one of my all time favorites. i know i said i'd only say 2, but bite me.

so, the beatles are also an all time favorite because i like dozens of songs by them, and i also liked them since i was about 4 years old. and there are certain songs by them i will always listen to no matter what if they come on. never get sick of them. and my kids like them. and my parents did. they are a family favorite. (but so is the who and the rolling stones... oh i could go on with this way of thinking and list 40 bands by the time i'm done...)

i have a hard time picking favorite band. favorite song. favorite type of music. i just can't. i really can't believe when people say they have ONE favorite song or band. how is that possible?? there is so much great music out there!!!

over all i guess i'd say i like "retro" or "new wave" music a lot. i like all of it.

when i had sirius radio i listened to channel 22 - first wave.

and now i have WOW cable and listen to channel 515 retro-active.

i can listen to this stuff every day, all the time.

the 80's was my favorite time for music.

So very hard, so very hard.

Sorry but the #1 spot goes to:

David Bowie

Other in my top are:

Pink Floyd

Nick Cave

The Nekromantix

The Smiths

Kraftwerk

The Whitestripes

Bad Brains

Joy Division

Joni Mitchell

The Misfits

Placebo

Devo

The Cure

The Detroit Cobras

The monks

Mad Sin

Batmobile

The Beatles

Patsy Cline

And a shit load more... I am a music junkie. Asking me to pick like a top 100 list is fucking hard. Let alone a #1. I chose Bowie because he has the talent of Re-inventing himself, and doing it amazingly instead of leaving a bitter taste in my mouth of what he use to be =) I heart him.

    • I am currently floored.   FedEx did a massive 6 box delivery to the wrong address.  I had an autoship order scheduled to arrive before this past weekend.  Nothing showed up.  I contacted the order site and they had a link for the order...a photo of all my boxes thrown in the snow and up the sidewalk of a residence that was not mine.   You would think that at some point, the driver would have looked at the delivery address after they kept throwing box upon box at this location with no shelter from the elements.  They didn't even knock on the door to inform the residents that massive 65+ pound boxes were left all over their walkway.  Nope.  Just dumped them, took a photo as they were walking away and left.   I wonder what the person who found all of those misdelivered boxes must have been thinking when they saw them.  Maybe they kept everything to use, distribute or sell.  No idea.  No claim was filed on that end as of yet.   Fortunately for me, one of the sites that I ordered from, replaced everything at no extra cost.   Unfortunately, now I'm concerned for the other items yet to be delivered.   Needless to say, I'll be watching my notifications like a hawk.
