Bush wins...

(wasn't sure whether this belonged here, or in the "other" forum, please move as needed - if there's no interest in this thread, feel free to delete it, also...) :)

this link is to a board i used to frequent, under another nickname. i've been following some of the discussions, and didn't see any dissenting opinions anywhere, so i decided to re-register as *torn*, to vocalize the other side of some issues. anyway, i'm curious to see what people's reactions are to all of the opinions voiced on this thread. if you feel like it, please check it out & let me know what you think. (my first post isn't until page 2...)

The whole thing made me sick.

I'm so glad that sort of thing doesn't go on on DGN - for the most part.

I just don't understand why people have to de-evolve to rudeness, name-calling & bullying when someone expresses a differing opinion. Well, I guess I understand why, but what I can't get is inside these people's heads - or hearts.

It's so sad.

What I can't fathom is how people can be so obtuse as to compare homosexuality with bestiality or pedophilia. The one involves a consensual relationship between two adults, typically of sound mind.

The other two are considered illegal and immoral in society with good reason. It involves forcing or coaxing a being into sexual relations that does not have the capacity to make an informed decision or to say no. This not only scars that being for the rest of its life, but it completely invalidates reason and control of ourselves above mere instinct.

There is no comparison there. Period.

If you want to decry your opposition to the idea of homosexuality and gay civil unions (I'm rather of the belief that nobody's consentual union in the eyes of the law should be called marriage; it should all be civil unions), that's your choice. But don't try to argue the slippery slope of eventually validating pedophiles, necrophiles, and bestials, because it just doesn't work.

OK, you went on a biker board... and got into a conversation about homosexuals.. and exptected anything other than this kind of responce?

I grew up around Bikers, no not people that own motorcycles, Bikers. Bikers are all about Freedom and Liberty.. as they Define it. Homosexuality is not part of that sub-culture.

I'm afraid I did think something to the same effect as Dark.

Part of me thought it was great you tried to stand up for your beliefs. But part of me thought it was telling that you had to create a pseudonym to feel comfortable doing so.

Kinda might tell you that you knew what to expect. And I wonder why you'd want to participate on a board where you don't feel comfortable expressing your true feelings as your "true self". None of my business, but judging by my own experiences, I personally would just feel alienated & bummed having to listen to that kind of thing day in and day out.

I tried to join the CC board. But it's so incredibly misogyny-laden, I couldn't get past the sick feeling it gave me in my stomache, so I gave up. I can handle dissenting views, just not consistently ugly ones.

i had originally stopped posting there, precisely due to that prevailing attitude. i would stop in to see if anything interesting was happening, maybe once/twice a month, for maybe a year. the more i read, the more upset i got. the more upset i got, the more i felt that someone had to try to stand up for the "other side". these were people i even rode with from MI to sturgis, sd, on a two week vacation a few years back. i was accepted and my opinions were at least tolerated. what i now realize was that, just as i have done now using a false name as a front, they had done to me, in person. (putting up a front) i did expect that reaction, but naively thought that with articulate, non-offensive responses i could at least get people to be decent, and express themselves in a constructive manner, and maybe i could even effect a change in some. when i finally realized it wasn't going to happen, i bowed out of the whole thing, and now i'm struggling with the thought that, no matter how strongly i believe in something, nor how convincing the argument, nor how respectfully i approach a thing, i/it will never be effective. i'm very discouraged and disheartened tonight - and like people told me when i voted for nader, i'm beginning to see that any/all effort i put into change will be wasted. i apologize for rambling so much. i'll shut up now...

by the way, a few years back there was a "board war", and the admin of this board banned several domains, which is why i had to re-register. i'd been trying for a few months to use my old name, but never got a response, so i had to pick a new one. that's when i decided to see how they would treat a new person...

Oh, how I can relate to this.

Buck up, little camper. There's gotta be a day when tolerance will be the norm, rather than the exception.

    • Feeling happy to report that my neighbor and her cat are now back together.  I build her fur baby an indoor Cat Run and now the cat and her 3 kittens have been moved in.  I told my neighbor to make sure the little ones stay with their mother for at least 3 days in their new environment before she starts letting people handle and take the babies away.    I wish she would keep at least one of the 3 kittens, but apparently they are all already spoken for.

    • Well it happened, understandably but it still sucks.  I hated them both so I was going to be unhappy either way, but I do admit I hate Trump slightly more because of the narcissism, egomania, xenophobia, and misogyny.  On top of that that insufferable base of his who think that they are free to act the same way now that he's won.  The apologetics from them were horrible too where they handwaved away legitimate criticisms, and mocking those who brought them with "orange man bad!"   The one good thing to come out of this is punk music is going to absolutely rock for the next few years.  However I really just have one question... https://www.loudersound.com/features/andrew-eldritch-sisters-of-mercy-will-make-another-album-if-trump-is-elected IT'S HAPPENED TWICE NOW ANDY, WHERE'S OUR FUCKIN' ALBUM‽ Well, I guess at least I'll get to keep my guns.
