JaneDead
yeah i don't care if you own it or not. if you are handling a gun, in a room full of people, and discussing the gun- it should NOT be loaded. unless of course you are a mafia boss and someone needs to be "talked" to if you know what i mean. Chris1
There is a difference between bad drills and idiocy. This gent and the fijian are examples of bad drills (in this example, making safe and in the fijian, withdrawing his weapon from a holster with his finger on the trigger) bad drills can be corrected idiocy can't :D

The_Dark
I own a Walther P38. It was built in 1942 by a small gun shop in Germany. (Walther could not meet the German military's production demands) I am a rather Proud gun owner. My children have seen this gun a few times. When they saw it, it was disasembled and being cleaned. One time they saw it loaded and fired. They were looking out the kitchen window and I was shooting plastic milk jugs full of water. I was demonstrating exactly what a gun would do to a person were they shot. (A gallon jug of water has about the same mass/density as a human head) I teach my kids gun safty and respect. Guns are not toys. Guns are not to be played with. This is a fine example of someone letting their ego override their good sense. A gun is always loaded. Even if you just took the bullets out of it, it's still loaded. There is no such thing as an unloaded gun. Thats the first thing I teach my kids. I brow beat them about it until the thought becomes second nature. All guns are loaded. The next thing I teach them.. Never touch the trigger unless you are ready to shoot the weapon. EVER. If your finger is touching that trigger, you better be aiming at what you plan on killing. Recently, while teaching my older boys how to shoot a shot gun, I slapped the weapon right out of my sons hands. Why? He touched the trigger. "Dad, I was just taking it out of the case." "Then why was your finger on the trigger of a loaded gun?" "It's not loaded, I was just taking it out of the case." "And what is lesson #1?" "Oh, yeah, sorry Dad." TomCat
as The Dark has demonstrated, It all begins in the home with EDUCATION.
Ginevra
I was exposed to rifles and shotguns at an early age. My father kept them in dust cases under his bed in nearly plain sight until they were needed for use such as hunting. We were never taught how to fire them nor to clean and care for them but we did see what the results were when Dad would bring home his hunting results. Yes, education DOES begin in the home, if people just simply take the time to instill the proper respect that firearms demand.

He should know that a weapon is not loaded by using the correct drills to make safe. He didn't it wasn't His foot hurts :D I had to perform a demonstration to a room filled with people similar stuff on my JNCO course and it isn't easy, you have to be confident and project yourself to be shit-hot at it (like him) but not complacent (unlike him :D ) I got my stripe, so someone figured I didn't do too badly and just for TC, a quote at the end of the post "Good drills lead to good skills and good skills pay the bills" (ok, the person who said that to me was 'not a nice fellow' but nevermind :D )
